The Research Center for Linguistics of the College of Foreign Languages was established in May 2016. It currently consists of 21 members, including teachers and researchers from center for post-doctoral studies in English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages. The director of the center is Professor Li Bing.
The research center concentrates on the study of language ontology and theoretical linguistics, as well as the applied linguistics. The research fields of the members cover phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, typology, pragmatics, sociolinguistics and historical linguistics. The target languages of the study include not only foreign languages, but also Chinese and the languages of ethnic minorities in China.
The research center organizes various forms of research activities and academic exchange activities. The specific work consists of organizing international and domestic academic conferences and academic forums, conducting domestic and foreign cooperative researches, inviting domestic and foreign scholars to visit and deliver academic reports; organizing the Linguistics Salon of the College of Foreign Languages and discussion and exploration of the work. The research center is committed to establishing extensive contacts with domestic and foreign counterparts.
The members of the center have successively presided over more than a dozen national, provincial and ministerial-level social science fund projects, as well as a number of post-doctoral fund projects, school-level projects and horizontal scientific research projects. The current research projects include 1 national key project, 1 national general project, 1 youth project of the Ministry of Education, 1 general project in Tianjin, 2 post-doctoral fund projects, and 4 school-level projects.
