To promote traditional Chinese solar-term culture and build a platform for cross-cultural exchange, on March 19, SFS held the spring cultural exchange event in Tianjin. Chinese and international teachers and students gathered to celebrate the season, using greenery as a token and solar terms as a medium.
The event centered on the wisdom of Chinese solar terms and cross-cultural interaction, featuring quiz challenges, miniature spring landscape crafting, team competitions, and photo sessions. A highlight was the “Bottle a Spring” hands-on workshop. Participants formed teams and worked together in a relaxed atmosphere to capture the beauty of spring, explore the mysteries of traditional Chinese folk customs, and deepen cultural bonds through collaboration.
Dr. Jin Yingqiao, foreign instructor at the Department of English, SFS, took part in the miniature landscape activity. He said, “This event lets me feel the unique charm of spring. Working with everyone on the quiz also deepens my understanding of Chinese solar-term culture. It is both fun and meaningful.”
After the event, participants viewed the finished works and share their thoughts. International students from the College of International Education noted that they not only enjoyed the fun of spring crafting but also strengthened their cross-cultural communication skills through conversation. Friendships among young students grew quietly in the vibrant spring air.
This event forms part of a signature cultural exchange series hosted by SFS, which integrates traditional Chinese culture with cross-cultural dialogue. It delivers an immersive experience of Chinese traditions and builds a high-quality communication platform. Moving forward, SFS will continue to leverage cultural events as vehicles for cross-cultural exchange, guiding Chinese and international faculty and students to learn from each other, achieve mutual growth, and enable diverse cultures to thrive on the NKU campus.
