Both competitions are among the most influential foreign language contests listed in the Ministry of Education’s officially recognized catalogue of student competitions. This year, they attracted participation from over 1,500 universities and nearly one million students nationwide.

With strong support from the Academic Affairs Office and the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) at Nankai University, and under the organization of the Department of Foreign Languages for Non-Majors, the University’s Foreign Language Competition Guidance Center actively promoted the “Excellence in English” Series Competitions for the Fall Semester of 2025. The competitions were successfully launched at the beginning of the semester, drawing nearly 650 students to participate in the university-level preliminary rounds, from which more than 40 contestants (including teams) advanced to the Tianjin regional competitions.

Since its establishment in 2023, the Center of Foreign Language Competition Instruction has benchmarked against top national English competitions and built a professional coaching team. It has implemented a systematic, full-process training model covering talent selection, structured training, and pre-competition preparation. Over the past three years, the Center has driven historic breakthroughs for Nankai University in major competitions, showcasing the global competence of its students on the national stage and effectively supporting the implementation of the University’s standards for excellence in English speaking and writing. In the next stage, the Center will, in collaboration with the College English Teaching Department, introduce new initiatives under the principle of “promoting learning through competition,” further advancing the reform of “Excellence in English” education and contributing to the cultivation of high-caliber, globally competent talents at Nankai University.
