On November 18, 2025, delegations from the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil and the Confucius Institute at the University of Minho in Portugal visited the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) at Nankai University. Prof. Yan Guodong, Dean of the School, and Associate Prof. Hu Jing, Head of the Portuguese Department, respectively held discussions with the visiting delegations on cooperation across multiple fields, laying a solid foundation for further expanding channels of international educational and cultural exchange and deepening practical collaboration.

The delegation from the Federal University of Ceará held the first meeting with the School. The delegation included Raimundo Costa, President of the Ceará State Council for Scientific and Technological Development, Nonato Furtado, Director of the Confucius Institute, and Ru Ning. Song Lijun, Director at Nankai University Press, also attended the meeting. The two sides reached consensus on several key issues and finalized a China–Brazil mutual translation and publication project. The School selected A Biography of Shiing-Shen Chern as a key title for translation and dissemination. This work, which presents the academic career and intellectual spirit of the distinguished Chinese mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern, will be translated into Portuguese by a professional team, serving as an important cultural bridge to promote mutual learning between Chinese and Brazilian civilizations and to deepen people-to-people exchanges. In addition, both sides discussed topics including faculty exchange mechanisms, collaborative publication of translated series, and the expansion of student exchange and internship opportunities. These efforts aim to establish a long-term platform for academic and cultural exchange between China and Brazil and to advance educational cooperation between the two universities to a higher level.

Following this, the delegation from the University of Minho in Portugal carried out exchanges with the School. The meeting was attended by António Manuel Clemente Lázaro, Director of the Confucius Institute, and Zhang Yan. During the talks, the two sides first reviewed their long-standing friendly cooperation and affirmed the achievements of previous exchanges. They then conducted in-depth discussions on faculty recruitment cooperation, joint projects between public secondary schools under the Chinese and Portuguese Ministries of Education, innovation in international education models, as well as the development of student internship and cultural experience programs. The two sides reached preliminary agreements on jointly planning and participating in future initiatives. By adopting innovative cooperation models and expanding areas of collaboration, they aim to infuse new momentum into educational and cultural exchanges between the two universities.
