On the afternoon of October 23, 2025, at the invitation of School of Foreign Studies (SFS) of Nankai University and Tianjin Foreign Literature Society, Professor Jin Li, Director of BFSU Academy of Foreign Literature Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University, presented a compelling lecture titled “Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Stowe’s Literary Imagination” to faculty and students of SFS.

Professor Jin Li began by examining the social context of 19th-century American slavery, offering an in-depth analysis of Stowe’s literary imagination in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. She emphasized that Uncle Tom’s Cabin became the most socially impactful novel in American literary history due to its condemnation of slavery. However, its ideological value extends beyond the social reform discussed in existing research, reaching into the realms of morality, religion, gender politics, and civilizational discourse.

In the Q&A session, teachers and students enthusiastically asked questions and Professor Jin Li answered thoroughly one by one. The event was lively and engaging, with participants noting that they had gained valuable insights and benefited enormously from it. The lecture concluded with Professor Jin Li taking a group photo with all faculty and students in attendance.
