Completion Appraisal Meeting for NSSFC Major Project“Construction and Application Research of Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Bases” Successfully Held

On the afternoon of September 29, 2024, the completion appraisal meeting for National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) Major Project Construction and Application Research of Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Bases was successfully held in the meeting room of the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) at Nankai University.

The meeting was presided over by Xue Xiangjun, Deputy Director of the Theory Division of the Publicity Department of the Tianjin Municipal Committee (also Deputy Director of the Tianjin Office for Social Sciences Work). Attendees included relevant leaders and officials such as Wang Chen, Official of the Publicity Department of the Tianjin Municipal Committee and the Tianjin Office for Social Sciences Work; Meng Delong, Deputy Director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Department at Nankai University; Liu Zhi, Official of the Projects and Achievements Office of the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Department at Nankai University; Yan Guodong, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies at Nankai University; and Li Min, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies at Nankai University.



The appraisal panel consisted of renowned experts, including Professor Hu Kaibao, Dean of the Corpus Research Institute at Shanghai International Studies University; Professor Wei Xiangqing from the School of Foreign Studies at Nanjing University; Professor Qin Hongwu, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages at Qufu Normal University; Professor Zhang Wei from the School of English and International Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University; Professor Ren Dongsheng from the College of Foreign Languages at Ocean University of China; Professor Wang Huashu from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretaion at Beijing Foreign Studies University; and Professor Zhao Qiurong from the School of Foreign Studies at University of Science and Technology Beijing. Professor Hu Kaibao served as the convener of the expert panel.


The projects chief expert, Professor Miao Ju, Distinguished Professor at Nankai University and Director of the Translation Studies Research Center, attended the meeting along with sub-project leaders Professor Wang Chuanying and Professor Teng Jianhui from Nankai University, core team members Professor Feng Quangong from Zhejiang University and Professor Wang Shaoshuang from Dalian University of Foreign Languages, as well as representatives from the research team, faculty members, and graduate students from both within and outside the university, totaling approximately 40 participants.


The project successfully constructed six exemplary bilingual terminological knowledge bases across specialized fields, accompanied by detailed descriptions (totaling 90,002 words). These include: the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base of Chinese Logical Thought, the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base for Cloud Computing, the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base of Political Discourse with Chinese Characteristics, the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base of Traditional Chinese Medicine Terms, the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base for Automotive Engines, and the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base of Chinese Traditional Culture (covering terms from Peking Opera, martial arts, and classical military texts).


During the Q&A session chaired by Professor Hu Kaibao, Dr. Ning Hailin, Dr. Liang Fulu, and Dr. Wang Hongfang presented key research highlights, summarizing theoretical studies, construction processes, and application examples of the terminological knowledge bases. Professor Wang Chuanying demonstrated the social application and promotion of the projects outcomes using the Chinese-English Terminological Knowledge Base of Das Kapital as an example. Dr. Li Shuangyan explained the exemplary construction achievements through the case of the Bilingual Terminological Knowledge Base of Chinese Logical Thought. Professor Miao Ju addressed questions from the experts and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their invaluable guidance and suggestions.


The appraisal experts unanimously affirmed the research achievements of the project team. Their insightful questions, suggestions, and profound observations provided significant inspiration for further research, guiding future scientific directions and content, which greatly encouraged and enlightened all members of the project team.
