On the afternoon of December 12, 2024, Professor Li Jinshu, Dean, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the College of Translation and Interpreting of Sichuan International Studies University (SISU), Secretary General of Chongqing Translation Association and Vice President of Chongqing Translators Association, delivered a wonderful academic lecture on the topic of “Applied Translation Criticism: An Academic Field in Need of Expansion” for the teachers and students of the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) of Nankai University. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Zhang Zhizhong, the director of the Department of Translation of SFS, and teachers and students from different majors attended.
In his lecture, Professor Li Jinshu traced the history of translation criticism, examined its development, and made an in-depth analysis of the urgency, feasibility and significance of writing the history of applied translation criticism. Combined with the historical context, the lecture comprehensively sorted out the development of the history of applied translation criticism, drew a historical map of the development of applied translation research, and put forward the key issues that need to be explored in this field. Through the thorough and informative analysis and argumentation on the specific research cuts, he demonstrated his high level of academic vision and a rigorous and sound path of translation history writing.
