On September 25, 2024, two graduate students, Chen Suling and Zhai Yumeng, from the Rural Workstation of Nankai University, were dispatched to Duolun County of Inner Mongolia. They provided translation services for a business negotiation meeting between the local Agriculture Bureau and Dutch business representatives. Following the successful completion of their translation duties, the workstation arranged for Chen and Zhai to visit four local primary and secondary schools to conduct an English learning exchange and share their experiences with students and teachers.
The two students visited Duolun No. 2 and No. 3 Middle Schools, the Vocational Education Center, and Shangduhe Primary School. Prior to the start of the learning exchange sessions, Professor Zhang Wenzhong, Professor of the English Department of the School of Foreign Studies (SFS) of Nankai University and Director of the Rural Workstation of Duolun County in Inner Mongolia, organized a video call with students and teachers from No. 2 and No. 3 Middle Schools, conveying heartfelt care and encouragement, deepening the connection and broadened the scope of the exchange. Although Professor Zhang was unable to connect via video with the other two schools due to time constraints, he entrusted Chen and Zhai to relay his warm regards to the students and his hope that they lay a strong foundation in English to "equip themselves with wings to soar in the world."
In the classroom, Chen and Zhai engaged in lively interactions with the students, sharing personal learning experiences and practical tips to inspire students to actively participate in international exchanges and broaden their perspectives. The graduate students' guidance and encouragement sparked enthusiasm among the students for English learning, fostering a warm atmosphere of inquiry and interaction that bolstered the students' confidence in their future English studies.
The SFS at Nankai University is committed to establishing the rural workstation by the name of Chinese path to modernization to enhance talent cultivation and elevate the quality of education through innovative efforts. The School will continue to focus on developing students' practical skills and global perspectives, opening up broader pathways for their future growth and development.
