Professor Su Hui from Central China Normal University
Gives Academic Lecture for School of Foreign Studies

On the morning of June 14, 2024, Professor Su Hui, doctoral supervisor of Central China Normal University and editor-in-chief of Foreign Literature Studies, gave a  lecture entitled “Foreign Literature Studies and China Discourse Construction” to the teachers and students of the School of Foreign Studies at Nankai University. Teachers from the Departments of English, Russian, Japanese, Translation, Spanish, Italian,and Department of Foreign Languages for Non-Majors, as well as undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students attended this academic activity.

Prof. Su Hui elaborated on how to highlight the Chinese perspective and Chinese stance in foreign literature study from four aspects: striving to seek the Chinese perspective of foreign literature study in the vision of comparative literature; adhering to the Chinese stance and boldly questioning and reflecting on foreign literature and culture; highlighting the dialogical nature of foreign literature research and connecting foreign literature with Chinese literature and reality; fully exploring the theoretical and cultural resources of our own nation, and striving to build a theoretical and discourse system with Chinese characteristics.Prof. Su Hui first pointed out the necessity and importance of constructing an academic discourse system with Chinese characteristics in foreign literature study. Later, Prof. Su analyzed the guidelines and the topics of journal papers of the General Programs of the National Social Science Fund of China (NSFC) and Major Programs of NSFC in the past five years, explaining how scholars of foreign literature research can seek Chinese perspectives in the study of foreign literature in the perspective of comparative literature. In addition, she summarized a series of important achievements made by scholars of foreign literature research in the construction of Chinese discourse, and put forward valuable suggestions on the space for foreign literature research.

In the Q&A session, the teachers and students enthusiastically asked questions, and Professor Su Hui gave wonderful answers. The teachers and students said that they were full of harvest and benefited greatly. The lecture ended successfully with thunderous applause.
