Nankai University Students Win Second Prize in 26th "FLTRP
Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students

From June 1 to June 2, the finals of the 26th "FLTRP Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students concluded successfully online. After rigorous selection through campus and provincial competitions, a total of 141 teams from universities nationwide gathered for the finals to compete fiercely. Zhang Lei, a Translation major, and Liu Wenqi, a Japanese major, both from the grade 2022 of the School of Foreign Studies, formed a team under the guidance of teachers Tang Lei and Shi Yu from the Public Foreign Language Teaching Department’s Foreign Language Competition Guidance Center. Over the course of two days and eight rounds of competition, they competed with students from prestigious universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and University of Macau. Demonstrating their wisdom in argumentation, they showcased the energetic and progressive spirit of Nankai university students, ultimately winning the national second prize. They ranked the highest among the three teams representing Tianjin.

The "FLTRP Cup" National English Debating Competition for College Students, known for its authority and professionalism, has been included for many years in the "China College Students' Innovation and Subject Competition Ranking" released by the China Association of Higher Education. The competition continues to be recognized by the academic community for its achievements in promoting education and talent cultivation through competitions.

Since its establishment, the Foreign Language Competition Guidance Center at Nankai University has innovated in foreign language education by enhancing competition publicity, selecting potential competition talents, and providing regular professional guidance. These efforts aim to reform college foreign language teaching and support Nankai University's development strategy. Henceforth, the Guidance Center will continue to adhere to the idea of "promoting learning through competition" with the goal of cultivating globally competent international talents. It will actively encourage more students to participate in various foreign language competitions, integrating competition practice with foreign language classroom teaching to better serve the university's talent cultivation.
