On April 26, Nankai University School of Foreign Studies held the inaugural award ceremony for the “Boyan Scholarship” at Jiye Hall. Professor Ma Hongqi, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Studies, attended and delivered a speech.

The Boyan Scholarship was established by She Peng, an alumnus of the Translation Department of the School of Foreign Studies, from the class of 2006. He is also the Deputy General Manager of Xiamen C&D Group. The scholarship aims to contribute to Nankai University by upholding the school motto of “Dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability.” It aims to assist students who demonstrate good morality and excellent academic performance in successfully completing their studies.

Ten undergraduate and graduate students from the Departments of Spanish, Translation, German, Arabic, Japanese, and English, who were awarded the 2024 Boyan Scholarships, as well as teachers in charge of the School Office and the Alumni Affairs Office, attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the school, Prof. Ma Hongqi delivered a passionate speech, thanking alumnus She Peng for his continued interest in the college’s development despite graduating many years ago. She Peng actively participated in the Nankai Centennial Celebration and college activities, contributed to the construction of the Langyuan, established the “Boyan Scholarship,” and supported students in completing their studies. Then, She Peng and other alumni jointly awarded scholarship certificates to 10 students.

Although She Peng had just returned from Brazil on official business, he attended the online ceremony for awarding grants immediately after returning to China. He encouraged the sponsored students to overcome all kinds of difficulties, study hard, improve themselves, and embody the spirit of a Nankai student in the new era with commitment, dedication, and love.

The students who received the grants, represented by Wang Haoran from the Department of Translation, made speeches one after another. They expressed their gratitude to She Peng, an outstanding alumnus, for establishing the scholarship to assist students in overcoming various challenges and boosting their motivation to successfully complete their studies. In the future, they should always be grateful, take seniors as an example, strive for success and specialization in their studies, and actively give back to alumni and society.

Up to now, alumni, teachers, and students from the School of Foreign Studies, along with international friends, have donated more than ten scholarships. For example, the “Liangyu Translation Scholarship” established by Zhao Xingmin, the “Qingmiao Scholarship” co-funded by Yang Lu and others from the class of 1983, and the “Japanese Undergraduate Scholarship” established by Zhao Wei.
