The College of Foreign Languages held the 11th lecture of the autumn semester research methodology workshop on the afternoon of Dec. 15. It was presided over by Prof. Li Min, Vice Dean of the College, and teachers from the English, Russian, and Italian departments, as well as visiting scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students participated in the activity. It aims to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, cultivate professional talents, improve the scientific research level and academic quality of teachers and students, create an innovative atmosphere, and give full play to the role of organized scientific research.
Hao Junjie, a master student specializing in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, gave a speech entitled "An Introduction to E-prime Psycholinguistics". First, Hao explained why language processing research should be carried out and the common research tools for language processing research. After that, he explained the E-prime experimental programming by taking the vocabulary judgment task as an example and shared the design ideas and key points of the self-paced reading experimental paradigm.
In the Q&A session, Hao answered the questions of the teachers and students, stressing the issues that should be paid attention to in the experiment. Finally, Prof. Li Min made a concluding speech, pointing out that this workshop not only introduced the common paradigms of psycholinguistics, but also elaborated the specific experimental design process and considerations, which has enlightening value for teachers and students to carry out empirical research.
This activity is the last research methodology workshop of the semester. In the spring semester, it will continue to cover meta-analysis and other quantitative research methods. All teachers and students are welcome to attend.
