On Dec. 13, Zhang Yuanpei, Director of the Spanish Language Editorial Office, the Department of News for International Communication, Xinhua News Agency, and his delegation came to the College of Foreign Languages for a discussion. Mu Xiangwang, Secretary of the College’s Party Committee, Xiang Yu, Deputy Secretary of the College’s Party Committee, and representatives of teachers and students of the Spanish Department attended the discussion.
Secretary Mu Xiangwang first expressed a warm welcome to the guests on behalf of the College. She pointed out that the College has always paid attention to the cultivation of students, especially the training of interdisciplinary talents with "foreign language expertise, humanistic literacy, international vision, Chinese affection, and Nankai characteristics". So the students can use language as a tool to tell Chinese stories well and contribute to the "going out" of Chinese culture.
Xiang Yu made a comprehensive and detailed introduction to the visiting guests of the College's exploration of the cultivation of international communication talents, including the reform and innovation of talent training mode, interdisciplinary knowledge teaching, and innovative ability cultivation.
Dr. Gu Jiawei, Director of the Spanish Department, made an introduction of the research background, research status, and later planning of "Tianjin Crosstalk Culture Promotion for the Spanish-speaking World", a project of the China National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Program.
The visiting guests of Xinhua News Agency listened carefully to the introduction made by the teachers and students. Zhang Yuanpei highly appreciated the work accomplished by the College. He affirmed the achievements of the College in student cultivation and international communication, saying that the follow-up cooperation on the crosstalk project will be carried out.
After the discussion, the visiting guests of Xinhua News Agency, accompanied by relevant personnel, visited the university’s history exhibition hall in the Haibing Center.
The Department of News for International Communication of Xinhua News Agency (including the Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao Newsroom) is an internal institute of the Xinhua News Agency, dedicated to broadcasting news about China to media and institutions at home and abroad. Zhang Yuanpei was once a correspondent of Xinhua News Agency in the Buenos Aires bureau in Argentina, editor of the Latin American bureau, and head of the SAN Jose bureau in Costa Rica.
