The results of the 2022 Tianjin Industry-University-Research Integration Postgraduate Workstation (“Workstation”) Selection organized by the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission were announced. After the application, preliminary evaluation by each unit, evaluation by the Municipal Education Commission, and public announcement, the “International Language Service Industry-University-Research Integrated Innovation Workstation” declared by Professor Wang Chuanying, doctoral supervisor of the College, in cooperation with Transn Language Network Technology Corporation.

The Workstation is jointly declared and constructed by postgraduate training institutes and relevant enterprises. Universities select and send teachers and postgraduates to enterprises to cooperate in talent training, scientific and technological innovation, social service, and other activities, which is committed to focusing on scientific and technological innovation and technological change of the Tianjin industry. It gives full play to the role of talent support and intellectual support of the universities, and promotes the all-around docking between supply-side of talent cultivation and the demand-side of industrial development, serving the high-quality development of the regional economy and society and improving the quality of postgraduate training.

Founded in 2005 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Transn Language Network Technology Co., Ltd. is one of the top language service enterprises in China, and has long been committed to translation and localization services, language technology development, and the cultivation of multilingual, complex and high-end language service talents. Since November 2009, Transn has cooperated with the CFL to establish the “Nankai-Transn Industry-University-Research Comprehensive Translation Practice Base”, which provides a considerable number of on-the-job internships for master translators of Nankai University. At the same time, it carries out cooperative research on the development of the global language service industry, emerging language service contents, national language service infrastructure construction, language strategy of local Chinese multinational corporations, and the development mode of “intelligent” language service enterprises in the era of artificial intelligence, etc. It has actively explored the “three-integration” cultivation of “Doctor of Translation” (DTI) by universities, sectors, and industries.

In recent years, Transn has actively integrated artificial intelligence, big data, natural language processing, and blockchain technologies to advance application development, strengthen the leadership of its “gene” matching algorithm, and expand application scenarios while enhancing human-computer co-translation capabilities. Its technological achievements have been widely applied to language service business processes. In terms of intelligent organization and scheduling of language service capacity, they have developed 9 core technologies and obtained 24 patents. These include intelligent matching of language service supply and demand, a full-information language knowledge base technology, and intelligent assessment of language service quality. In the field of human-computer co-translation, they have developed 6 core technologies and obtained 9 patents. These include intelligent quality inspection and error correction technology for translations, as well as interactive intelligent translation tools. In terms of the machine translation engine matrix, they have developed 2 core technologies and obtained 9 patents. These include machine translation quality dynamic assessment technology and multi-engine dynamic adaptation technology.

In accordance with the founding principles of the Workstation, and drawing on the longstanding collaboration between the CFL+ and Transn, the two sides will engage in AI-based technical cooperation and advanced composite language service talent development over the next five years. This initiative aims to offer practical and scientific research opportunities for Nankai University's master program in translation and future doctoral students in translation (DTI) and to jointly contribute to the cultivation of high-end language service professionals and promote talent development in the service industry.
