Senior Researcher Ding Jianwei from the Taihe Institute Gives a Lecture at the Center for Area Studies of Nankai University

On November 1, Dr. Ding Jianwei, a Senior Researcher at the Taihe Institute and former Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Ukraine, was invited by the Center for Area Studies of Nankai University to deliver a lecture on “The Impact of the Russo-Ukrainian Crisis on the Eurasian Region” to the faculty and students of Nankai University. Professor Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Director of the Center for Area Studies presided over the lecture.

In the lecture, Dr. Ding Jianwei objectively and fairly analyzed the reasons for the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian crisis, the current situation, and its future development trend, and also introduced the position and propositions put forward by the Chinese government for promoting a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis, which were based on comprehensive, sufficient, and reliable data and materials. At the same time, he combined his own academic research accumulation and practical work experience to sort out the major events and international hotspot issues in Eurasian countries since the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian crisis. He elaborated on the profound impact of the Russo-Ukrainian crisis on the Eurasian region and the pattern of international relations. Additionally, he analyzed the challenges facing the quality development of China's efforts to promote friendship and cooperation with the countries of Eurasia and to promote the construction of the Belt and Road in the current situation. He focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by China in promoting friendly cooperation with Eurasian countries and advancing the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative under the current circumstances.

In addition, Dr. Ding Jianwei introduced the efforts made by the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine to ensure the personal safety of Chinese and overseas Chinese in Ukraine following the outbreak of the Russo-Ukrainian crisis. He also encouraged students to appreciate the time, utilize the foreign language advantages of Nankai University, promote region and country studies in a practical academic manner, and contribute to the implementation of the national strategy through academic achievements.

Prof. Yan expressed his gratitude to Dr. Ding and emphasized the strategic importance of Eurasia to China. He also highlighted the far-reaching impact of the Russo-Ukrainian crisis on the restructuring of international relations. Prof. Yan pointed out the urgent need to study regional countries to understand the current reality. He mentioned his plans to invite more experts and scholars to give lectures and contribute to the development of the discipline of region and country studies at Nankai University.
