Nankai Students Achieve Great Results in National College Russian Language Competition

From October 27 to 29, 2023, the 2023 National College Russian Language Competition, sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Beijing Foreign Studies University, was held in Beijing. Ling Chang, a 2022 undergraduate student of the College of Foreign Languages at Nankai University won the excellence award of the lower-grade group. Sun Ao, a 2020 undergraduate student won the third prize of the higher-grade group. Yang Yunfan, a 2023 postgraduate student won the third prize of the postgraduate group. Liu Xueqing, a 2023 Ph.D. student won the excellence award of Ph.D. round table forum.

The preliminary competition adopted the mode of “online+offline”. Among the 392 online contestants from various universities across the country, sixty of them stood out to participate in the semi-final and then the final to strive for the top three awards. At last, the awarded participants will be fully funded by the China Scholarship Council to further study or pursue degrees in Russia.

The College of Foreign Languages at Nankai University has paid high attention to the competition and started organization and selection several months in advance. The instructors Prof. Wang Lidan and Dr. Huang Mingtuo organized special trainings on schedule and instructed students carefully. A foreign teacher of the Russian Department, Ирина Сергеевна, also guided the training of public speech.

Through serious preparation and good performance, the contestants achieved great results in the competition, which demonstrated the ability of the young students of Nankai University and reflected the teaching level of the Russian language program of the College. The contestants also gained a deeper understanding of the requirements of speaking and listening in Russian language learning in the process of preparing for the contest. By accumulating valuable experience in the competition, the students realized the goal of using the competition to promote learning.
