Nankai University successfully holds the 15th International Academic Conference of the Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia

From May 6th to 7th, 2023, the 15th International Academic Conference and Symposium of the Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia, sponsored by the East Asian Cultural Survey Center (EACSC) of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University and the Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia (SCIEA), and co-organized by the Center for Global Civilizations of Nankai University, the Faculty of History, the Japan Institute of Nankai University, and the Korean Research Center, was grandly held in Nankai University.

Li Jing, Vice President of Nankai University, congratulated the successful convening of the conference, welcomed and thanked the delegates, and hoped that through the conference, Nankai University would strengthen communication with SCIEA and other sister universities, and promote the integrated development of related disciplines.

The theme of the conference is "Integration and Innovation of East Asian Culture", and the opening ceremony is presided over by Professor Liu Yuzhen, Director of EACSC. In 2022, Kim Myung soo who service as the President of SCIEA and work at Keimyung University in South Korea, Han Dongyu, Professor of the School of History and Culture of Northeast Normal University, President of the China Japanese History Association, Satoshi Kinsui, Director of the Osaka Learning Center of the Open University of Japan, Alfons Labisch, Distinguished Professor of the School of History of Beijing Foreign Studies University, former President of University Dusseldorf, Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences, Li Xuetao, Dean of the School of History of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Academician of the German National Academy of Sciences, Shen Guowei, Director of SCIEA, Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages of Kansai University, Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, Yu Xinzhong, Dean of the Faculty of History, Liu Yuebing, Dean of the Japan Institute, Sun Weiguo, Director of the Korean Research Center, Zhao Ji, Professor of the School of Literature, attended the conference.

More than 360 representatives from more than 10 countries, including China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, Canada and Australia, attended the meeting in a combination of online and offline. Professor Liu Yuzhen from the College of Foreign Languages was elected as the President of SCIEA for the year 2023.

This conference has 75 sub conferences, with more than 2,200 pages in total, covering language, literature, translation, history, culture, philosophy, drama, art and many other fields. It discusses the intercommunication, mutual learning, mutual integration and innovation of East Asian cultures from multiple perspectives, with a wide range of topics and an unprecedented scale, which was unanimously praised by the participants.

The Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia (SCIEA) was established in 2009 to promote the connection and exchange of East Asian cultural studies around the world, dynamically grasp the various phenomena of the generation, contact, collision, transformation and integration of East Asian cultures, and through various methods of Humanities, explain the phenomenon of cultural exchanges from multiple perspectives. It has held 14 annual conferences in China, Japan, South Korea, Germany and other countries or regions. It has extensive international influence in the research field of East Asian cultural negotiation. The 16th Annual Conference of SCIEA will be hosted by Kansai University in Japan.
