In recent years, the College of Foreign Languages has been focusing on subject competitions and continuously strengthening top-level design. It adheres to promoting learning, innovation and success through competitions, focusing on students' foreign language application skills, innovative cultural literacy, and career development needs to carry out comprehensive and multi-level competition guidance and cultivation. The college continuously improves the quality of talent cultivation, serving all students in university, improving their foreign language application abilities, and promoting high-quality employment.

Collaborate with departments to focus on foreign language application skills and promote learning through competitions

The college attaches great importance to subject competitions and has formulated and introduced the "Implementation Measures for the Cultivation and Guidance of Professional Competitions for Students in the College of Foreign Languages". It has established a two-level guidance system including the college level and the major level, supporting multiple departments such as the college's Youth League Committee, the Department of Public Foreign Language Teaching, and the Examination Center to  undertake the National English Contest for College Student (NECCS); the "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" English Public Speaking Contest, Writing Contest, Reading contest, and Debate Contest; SELEP Cup National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest, Twenty-first Century Cup National English Speech Contest, and other important national competitions. The college provides a foreign language training and competitive platform for all students in the school, thus improve their foreign language application skills. In 2022, over 2,000 students participated in various national competitions organized by the College of Foreign Languages, and over 10% of them successfully won national awards.

Build lectures focusing on innovative cultural literacy, and promote innovation through competitions

The college connects the first class (classroom teaching) with the second class (supplementary activities). The department directors take the lead in organizing a series of professional competition months covering all majors and grades, which helps to create an atmosphere for all students to actively participate the competitions. The college also focuses on the improvement of cultural literacy and innovation ability, and all departments have continued to innovate in the theme and form of the event, for example the translation and dubbing of films and TV plays. Students have helped a series of excellent Chinese films and TV plays go global, such as Minning Town, The Age of Awakening, The Belt and Road. In the Spanish language video competition, students use the methods of making creative videos to vividly present Chinese culture; In the Portuguese Vlog creative competition, students showcase today's China through camera footage. In the arena of discipline competition, students not only polished their language and cross-cultural communication skills, but also built a solid foundation for their belief in telling Chinese stories and building a Community of Shared Future. In addition, the college also relies on student organizations and clubs to organize various forms of themed translation competitions, creative science popularization translation competitions, and translator story sharing competitions, creating an active second class.

Collaborate between the college and enterprises, focus on industry development needs, and promote success through competitions

In recent years, the college has actively explored school enterprise cooperation, focusing on industry development needs and conducting various competitions to enhance students' industry competence. For example, the College has collaborated with Kingsoft Document Company to hold a collaborative translation competition, establishing a low--threshold collaborative translation and proofreading platform to cultivate students' translation project management skills; Collaborating with Nanjing Xiyin E-commerce Co., Ltd. to apply for the Ministry of Education's supply and demand docking employment and education project, and launching the Xiyin Campus Challenge to stimulate cross-border business innovation vitality; Jointly applying for the Ministry of Education's industry-education cooperation collaborative project with Tianjin Huayi Yulian Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly explore the innovative cultivation of foreign language translation talents in the post epidemic era. By establishing an innovation and entrepreneurship training base and holding foreign language innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, the college aims to cultivate and incubate innovation and entrepreneurship projects such as foreign language plus information technology, foreign language plus social services, and foreign language plus cultural innovation. Through multi-level school enterprise cooperation competitions, the college aims to enhance students' employment competitiveness and provide high-quality talents for society.

It is reported that in the 2021-2022 academic year of the College of Foreign Languages, a total of 98 students have won national awards in various competitions across the country, and 46 students have won provincial and ministerial awards, with a record high number of prize-winners in consecutive years. In the future, the college will continue to promote the institutionalization, normalization, and long-term construction of subject competitions, keep up with the development of the times and social needs, continuously improve the quality of foreign language talent training, enhance students' employment competitiveness, and help students to achieve full employment and high-quality employment.
