On April 4, the College of Foreign Languages and Mudan Academy jointly held a poetry sharing session called “Poem in the World: Night of Mudan”. Yan Guodong, Dean of Mudan Academy and Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Li Yuxin, Mudan Academy instructor and Professor of the College of Chemistry, Li Min, Vice Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Xiang Yu, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Zhang Zhizhong, Head of the Department of Translation of the College of Foreign Languages, Shi Yuchen, teacher of the Department of Translation of the College of Foreign Languages, and Wen Chengfeng, Fan Xihe, An Zhenhuan, Li Zhenxi, Hu Yan, and Cai Yintong, alumni representatives of the College of Foreign Languages, attended the event.
At 4:00 p.m., representatives of teachers, students and alumni gathered in the Mudan Garden with the drizzle to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 105th anniversary of Mr. Mudan’s birth. At the ceremony, Jiang Luyu, a student representative of Mudan Academy, shared her rich experience after joining Mudan Academy. The careful guidance of her mentor helped her grow rapidly. Afterwards, the student representative of the College of Foreign Languages recited Mudan’s poem “Lyrical Poems in the Bomb Shelter” with deep emotion, which moved the audience very much. Finally, all members bowed to the statue of Mr. Mudan and offered flowers in turn.
At the beginning of the poetry sharing session, Yan recalled Mr. Mudan’s path of study, creation and translation in his speech, and introduced the development of Mudan Academy since its establishment. He encouraged students not only to cultivate the fertile ground of literary aesthetics and experience the beauty of poetry, but also to learn from both Chinese and Western cultures, inherit Mudan’s deep sense of family and country, and carry out the mission of youth in the new era. Fan Xihe and Wen Chengfeng, alumni representatives, shared the profound influence of the spirit of Nankai and the quality of the College on them. With words full of emotion, they told stories about their relationship with Nankai and literature and their deep concern for the development of Mudan Academy. Afterwards, An Jeong-hwan and Cai Yintong, alumni of the College of Foreign Languages, were hired as external mentors of Mudan Academy, injecting new vitality into the construction of a wise academy and the overall development of students.
At the poetry sharing session, students, faculty and alumni participated in interactive games and performed multilingual poetry recitation. They appreciated the connotation of poetry by competing on the same stage and communicating cordially. In the wonderful performance of Beijing opera excerpts and English songs, all members shared the charm of Chinese and foreign cultures.
It is reported that the “Night of Mudan” poetry sharing session is a brand activity of the College of Foreign Languages and Mudan Academy, providing a colorful cultural platform for teachers and students to exchange and learn from each other and grow together. The theme of this poetry sharing session is “Poem in the World: Night of Mudan”. It was designed to guide students to appreciate the deep family sentiments in Mudan’s poetry, to read the valuable spiritual wealth left by the “poet of nine leaves”, and to inspire them to inherit the spirit of Mudan. They will turn their remembrance and admiration for the sage into motivation to move forward, remember their mission and take up their important responsibilities.
