Famous sinologist Artyom Kobzhev gives a lecture in the series “Russian Sinology”

On March 20, Professor Artyom Kobzev, a famous Russian sinologist, gave an online lecture entitled “The Past and Present Life of the Russian Edition of the Ten-Volume General History of China” at the College of Foreign Languages. This was the first lecture of the “Russian Sinology Lecture Series” in the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University in 2023.

The lecture was hosted by Professor Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University and the chief expert of the National Social Science Foundation’s major project “Translation and Research of the Russian Edition of General History of China”. Prof. Sun Chao, Prof. Li Jiangang, Prof. Zhao Jianchang and Prof. Xiao Yuqiu, as well as teachers and students from Nankai University, Heilongjiang University, Shandong University, Shanxi University and Beijing Normal University attended the lecture.

Professor Kobzev reviewed and summarized the main achievements of Russian sinology before the Russian edition of the General History of China came out. He focused on the famous scholars who made important contributions to the field of Chinese historical research in Russia and their representative works, and explained their intrinsic connection with the volumes of General History of China. Professor Kobzev’s report was not only rich in materials and comprehensive in content, but also profound in analysis and original and unique in perspective. This presentation helped to open up the horizons of students and teachers and deepen their understanding of the characteristics of Russian sinology. Prof. Kobzev gave patient, scientific and rigorous answers to the questions raised by the students and teachers.

Prof. Artyom Kobzev is a leading contemporary Russian sinologist, currently the Director of the Department of Chinese Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who has made outstanding achievements in the fields of Chinese philosophy, history and literature. He was awarded the Russian State Prize by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in 2011 and the 14th Chinese Book Special Contribution Award in 2020.
