On September 27, the College of Foreign Languages organized a meeting for newly recruited teachers to continue to promote the thematic learning and educational practice activities. The main responsible persons of the Party and administration of the College of Foreign Languages, the heads of administrative departments and new teachers recruited in 2021 and 2022 participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, the new teachers introduced themselves and exchanged their working experiences at NKU. The heads of each department of the College of Foreign Languages introduced the system and workflow of the College’s teaching, scientific research, Party construction, administration, and finance to the newly recruited teachers. The meeting deepened the new teachers’ understanding of their work in the College and provided convenience for the new teachers to effectively carry out teaching and research. The heads of each department also gave detailed answers to the specific questions raised by the new teachers.
Dean Prof Yan Guodong encouraged new teachers to enhance their sense of responsibility and mission, and he put forward three requirements of teaching, scientific research and talent training. Firstly, education should be taken seriously, and it must be “serious”, “earnest” and “attentive”. Starting from observation and learning, teachers should sum up experience, absorb modern teaching methods and pay attention to improving teaching effect. Secondly, teachers need to do basic research with a sense of innovation and a sense of mission. National and international situation as well as research issues should always been paid attention to. Thirdly, teachers should have a correct attitude and study hard, striving to grow into high-quality teachers with patriotism and NKU quality in career and spiritual outlook.
Secretary Mu Xiangwang welcomed the new teachers. She concluded that it is necessary to keep in mind the important entrustment given by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection of Nankai University, which all Nankai people should work hard on the road of scientific research to serve the country. Firstly, teachers need to insist on taking morality education as the fundamental task. Language advantages should be applied to tell Chinese stories well and write papers on the land of the motherland. Secondly, new teachers need to adapt to the role of teachers as soon as possible, striving to achieve physical and mental health and keep a good balance between work and life. Thirdly, learning from the excellent role models around can benefit stimulating the potential, especially from the experienced teachers.
At present, the College of Foreign Languages is implementing the Overall Plan to Promote the Construction of World-Class Universities and Disciplines, and it will continue to maintain the fine tradition of Foreign Languages discipline of the College. The College vigorously implements the strategy of “strengthening the college with talents, revitalizing the college with disciplines, quality improvement, scientific research innovation, serving the society and international development”. The College continues to deepen the reform and innovation of education and teaching, optimize the academic environment and build a team of foreign language teachers with responsibilities. The College makes effort in building a national comprehensive university and the College of Foreign Languages with distinctive characteristics, outstanding advantages and first-class quality in order to create a world-class university and first-class discipline.
