Delegation of German Department Wins the National Second Prize in the Fourth National Undergraduate German Dubbing Competition

On July 10, 2022, the 4th National Undergraduate German Dubbing Competition, sponsored by the School of German Studies of Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Germanistische Fakultät der SISU, was held online. The event is one of the most traditional and important events forGerman majors. The event is divided into a preliminary contest and finals. The preliminary contest was held on April 17, with the participation of 55 representative teams of colleges and universities across China. The contest was held and scored online. Tao Yu, Zhu Jingyi, Liu Zhuoxin and Ou Ling from the German Department (students of the grade 2019) entered the competition on behalf of Nankai University. After fierce competition, a total of 15 teams including them were selected to enter the finals.

The final of this competition invited AmbassadorShi Mingde, Sabine Wilmes, vice president of Beijing Branch of German Goethe Institute and director of language department, and Li Yafang, president of Beijing Weekly as judges. The finals was successfully held through online live broadcast, and the number of hits exceeded 20 000. The competition is divided into two parts. In the first part, 15 university teams complete the dubbing of the selected film clips with the theme of friendship, and six teams with the highest scores enter the second part. In the second segment, the contestants improvised the fragments of Marx and Engels brewing the draft of the Communist Manifesto in the German film Der junge Karl Marx, offering an audio-visual feast for all the audience. The delegation of German Department of Nankai University advanced to the second round of the finals with the second place in the first round. Finally, the delegation of Nankai University wonthe national second prize.

The contestants said that such a good result could not be achieved without the joint efforts of all the students and the careful teaching of all the teachers of the German Department. They would like to thank the foreign teacher Shen Kuo for spending a lot oftime to helpthe team correct their pronunciation and put forward very valuable suggestions for revision.  

The year 2022 coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany. The four contestants from the German Department of Nankai University explained the understanding of friendship among the young students of Nankai University with wonderful voices, and strengthened the determination of Nankai students to promote international understanding.
