Recently, the Library Society of China announced the results of the 3rd College Students’ Reading and Speech Demonstration Activity. The speech titled “Faith” performed by Zhang Ning, who is a 2020 undergraduate student of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, was selected as the exhibited work.

This event was sponsored by the Reading Promotion Committee of the Chinese Library Society, with the theme of “Inheriting the Red Gene, ‘Chanting’ the Chinese Chapters of the Times”. The students selected books to read according to the theme of the activity and recorded their reading experiences as speech videos. The event received a total of 98 submissions recommended by universities across the country. After the initial review, second review, discussion, confirmation and other processes, 20 works were selected as the exhibited works.

Since the launch of the event, the school library, in conjunction with the Party Committee’s Department of Education and Industry, the Party Committee’s Research and Industry Department and the Youth League Committee, has launched the Nankai University competition area selection activity. This activity was guided by the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee of the school and strongly supported by various professional colleges and social organizations, and the majority of students actively participated.

After layers of screening, Zhang Ning’s work “Faith” stood out. Zhang Li, a library teacher, and Liu Kun, an associate professor at the College of Literature, served as the instructors and gave careful guidance on the content of the speech and the presentation form. Zhang Ning used Fang Zhimin’s “Lovely China” as a reference in “Faith”. Starting from the story of a letter, it deeply tells the magnificent epic of the Chinese Communists with firm beliefs, throwing their heads and blood for national independence and people’s liberation and exchanging precious lives for a happy life today. This speech expressed the lofty aspirations of students of NKU to inherit the red gene and study for the rise of China.

It is reported that the College Students’ Reading and Speech Demonstration Activity aimed to lead contemporary college students to correctly understand the glorious history and great achievements of the Communist Party of China. The goal of the activity was to encourage the students to gain wisdom from historical experience, arm themselves with knowledge and use reading to constantly temper and improve themselves. The activity created a positive and civilized reading atmosphere on campus and encouraged young students to forge ahead in a new journey and make contributions to a new era with a high-spirited attitude.
