May, not only ushered in the early summer season when it rains lightly and trees and grass are seen clearly, but there is also a special festival at this time of year—The Mother’s Day. On May 8th, the Labor Union of the College of Foreign Languages gave a small gift to the faculty and staff of the College. The college has invited Professor Li Chuanyong from the College of Physical Sciences, who is “Good Mothers of NKU” and Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the school, to come to the Academic Resource Center of the college to give an interactive lecture on family and parenting. She shared the secrets of a harmonious family and parenting experience with teachers, imparted family education knowledge and helped build the most beautiful family at Nankai University.
The theme of Professor Li Chuanyong’s lecture was “A Talk on the Happy Growth of Children”. Although she focused on the growth of children, she infiltrated the great philosophy of “to cultivate the moral self, to regulate the family, to maintain the state rightly and to make all peaceful” in the process of explaining. It is true that parents will encounter common headaches in the process of parenting, such as declining grades, rebellious periods, online games, “puppy love” and so on. Solving these problems requires the wisdom of parents. In this process, parents’ experience and growth can help children grow up healthily. It can be said that parenting is a constant “cultivation”, raising children and cultivating yourself. In the words of Prof. Li Chuanyong, it is to “be yourself; when your role is proper, the people around you will be fine, and these problems will be solved easily.” The whole lecture was divided into three parts, namely, “Growth”, “Family” and “Tools”. The lecture also talked about the four feelings of successful parenting, namely, creating a “harmonious atmosphere”, learning “equal dialogue”, letting children “be independent”, and pursuing “common progress”. Prof. Li Chuanyong quoted psychology and pedagogical theories to communicate from a scientific perspective, supplemented by vivid cases and shared her personal experience in the process of parenting in an all-around and multi-dimensional manner. She also recommended books, online learning tools, etc. to help and guide the audience to establish a correct family concept and master the correct educational methods.
The presentation of Professor Li Chuanyong was humorous and rich in content. This lecture made all the teachers and staff present realize the importance of family education and eliminated the blind spots in family education. There was warm applause from time to time on the field, and the response was enthusiastic. The teachers who participated in the activity said they benefited a lot and felt a lot. After the lecture, the teachers gathered around Professor Li Chuanyong to ask questions, share their experiences and exchange experiences in family education.
