In order to answer the students’ doubts about study and employment, help them clarify the future development direction, make career planning and improve their core competitiveness, the college of foreign languages launched one-month “undergraduate career exploration” activities, which ended smoothly recently.
In the first lecture, the college invited Gong Lingling, Dean of the Educational Administration Research Institute of Shanghai Gordon education group and associate professor of accounting, to bring a theme report entitled “Multiple development possibilities of foreign language students under industry transformation”. Firstly, she analyzed the development direction of foreign language major and the employment situation of language major in recent three years, and gave a clear interpretation of the postgraduate entrance examination and employment fields concerned by the students. Facing the impact of artificial intelligence on the language industry, she believes that taking language as the core will face problems such as limited jobs, low demand and dependence, weak overall knowledge and comprehensive ability and so on. She called on students to combine language advantages and develop in multiple directions to become diversified and compound talents. Gong Lingling also shared the compound directions that foreign language talents can choose. After comprehensively considering the employment, professional barriers, professional preferences, salary and other factors, she believed that the combination of foreign language major and business has great advantages. She introduced the business, salary and welfare status of the four major accounting firms, the advantages of English major, and provided the experience of senior students, sisters and industry representatives in successfully entering the four major accounting firms, For everyone to learn from. Finally, for students who are interested in taking the road of business compound talents, she suggests that they actively participate in advanced business competitions and take advantage of winter and summer vacation to participate in accounting internships and high-quality practical projects of famous enterprises.
In the special topic of postgraduate recommendation, the college invited three 2018 undergraduates, respectively recommended to Peking University, Fudan University and Zhejiang University, Zhang Shuqi, Li Jiahao and Yang Lianrong, in combination with their cross insurance majors, to share their learning experience, major selection and school selection experience. In the theme exchange of going abroad for further study, Sun Yimeng, Du Guangyu, Xue Yuanyuan and Dong Yunhan, the 2021 graduates of the college, shared in detail the time planning, personal situation, preparation materials, target professional requirements and other contents of their application to study in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and other places, and compared the curriculum arrangement, learning mode and admission preference of Chinese and foreign colleges.
The “undergraduate career exploration” activities are based on the practical needs of undergraduates in the social environment. Students said that they reduced anxiety and emotional internal friction by participating in the activities and obtained a lot of valuable information.
