About the Department & University
Founded in 1919, Nankai University ranks among the list of top universities in China, and it is located in Tianjin, a historic city as one of the four municipalities directly under the Central Government of China. The College of Foreign Languages is traced back to the subjects of English, German, French, and Japanese, which boast a history of one hundred years. Now the college is composed of 10 departments (the Department of English, Russian, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, and Translation respectively), 1 section (English Teaching Section for the Whole University), 7 research centers and a center for post-doctoral studies.
In view of the domestic and overseas economic development, the Translation Department was founded in 2002 so as to meet the social needs for translators and interpreters, nationally listing Nankai University among very few universities with a translation department orientated towards cultivating translators and interpreters at the bachelor level. In 2010, approved by the National Ministry of Education, the major of translation was established, which is open to national recruitment from high school students. In 2016, the joint program of master’s degree in translation studies, between the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University and Glasgow University of Britain, was approved by the National Ministry of Education of China.
The majority of staff of the Translation Department have doctoral degrees from prestigious domestic or overseas universities, and they are engaged in the research and teaching of translation, comparative literature, and linguistics, most of whom possess rich translation or interpreting experiences, and three of them are doctoral supervisors. The department is devoted to cultivating qualified translators and interpreters between English and Chinese, who possess an international view with profound knowledge in liberal arts.
Teachers of translation are wanted by the Translation Department of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, domestically and internationally, irrespective of citizenship status.

(1) Young Chinese or overseas scholars with a doctoral degree from distinguished domestic or overseas universities (under 35).

1.3 Recruitment of post-doctoral teachers
(1) Chinese or overseas scholars with a doctoral degree from distinguished domestic or overseas universities (under 35, and doctoral degree obtained within 3 years).
(2) Academic fields: translation studies, comparative literature, English language and literature, linguistics.
1.4 Recruitment of overseas experts
(1) Overseas teachers with a doctoral degree from Britain, America, or English-speaking countries, professor or associate professor with rich academic achievements.
