On the morning of December 12, 2021, the 111 lecture hall of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University was warmed with happy laughers and cheerful voices. At 9:05, the solemn and majestic National Anthem was played. The General Meeting of the Branch of Foreign Languages of Nankai Alumni Association and the 2021 Annual Work Conference was held online and offline.
Ding Feng, director of the Alumni Office of Nankai University and Secretary-general of the Nankai Alumni Association, college party secretary Mu Xiangwang, dean Yan Guodong, deputy dean Ma Hongqi and other leaders attended the offline conference.
Zhao Wei, director and chairman of the Branch of Foreign Languages, vice presidents Zhao Zhenge (Washington), Li Zhenxi (Tokyo), Zhao Xingmin (Geneva), vice chairpersons Xu Chaoyou (Beijing), Kuang Dong (Chongqing), Ji Xuefeng (Tianjin), Jiang Chunji ( Tokyo), Wang Junyu (Tianjin), Yang Lu (Xiamen), Huang Zhengyan (Tianjin), deputy secretary-general Fan Xihe (Tianjin), Chen Xiaoyu (Beijing), Gu Limin (Shanghai), Shi Wu (Tianjin), Xu Ping (Qingdao), An Zhenhuan (Tianjin), Feng Bo (Congo-Brazzaville), Huang Shaorong (Quanzhou), Luo Chengjian (Shenzhen) and honorary presidents Gao Dongshan (New York), altogether with persons in charge of foreign language alumni organizations, teachers, students and alumni are participating from the United States, Britain, Japan, Russia, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Kenya, the Philippines, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and other countries and regions online and offline regardless of time differences. The director and executive director of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages in Tianjin, Mr. Liu Shicong, and Zhang Xiaosong, Fang Qian, Wan Jiatai, Hu Hailong, Su Jianhua (Dean of Confucius Institute in Brazil), and Wang Zepu from the secretariat attended the meeting. Gao Tianming, secretary-general of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages presided over the conference.
Ding Feng, director of Nankai University Alumni Office and secretary-general of Nankai Alumni Association, delivered a warm speech. He congratulated the convening of the conference and fully affirmed the achievements made by the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages in the past three years. He thanked the alumni from home and abroad for actively participating in activities such as the Centennial Anniversary of Nankai University, andfeeding back the university in various forms to help with the construction and development. On the occasion of the new century of development, he hoped that NKUers at home and abroad would work together to promote the school motto of “dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability” and build a spiritual home together. Ma Hongqi read the congratulatory letter on behalf of Lu Congmin, the honorary chairman of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages, and wished the conference a complete success.
Director Zhao Wei made a general report and explained in details the “Measures of Working of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages”, “Measures of Financial Work of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages” and “Lists of Recommendation of the Second Council of Directors ofthe Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages”, which were deliberated, voted, and approved by conference participants.
Vice director Zhao Zhenge and vice chairman Xu Chaoyou respectively announced the lists of recommendation of the second executive directors of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages and the lists of recommendation of members of the second leadership team, which were deliberated, voted, and approved by conference participants.
The conference elected Mr. Liu Shicong and Mr. Gao Dongshan as the honorary director and honorary chairman of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages.
Mu Xiangwang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, and Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, delivered speeches respectively and expressed heartfelt thanks to alumni at home and abroad for always caring and supporting the construction of the university, the development of the college and alumni work. They welcomed alumni to “come back home often” at any time, and open up a better tomorrow for the university.
At 10:05, the branch secretary-general Gao Tianming presided over the 2021 Annual Meeting of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages. Chairman Zhao Wei and deputy secretary-general Chen Xiaoyu respectively made the “2021 Work Report of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages” and the “2021 Financial Work Report of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages”, which were deliberated, voted, and approved by conference participants.
Vice director Li Zhenxi and vice chairman Kuang Dong announced the “Alumni Contribution Award” and “Alumni Work Award” and commendation lists of outstanding alumni for the past three years since the establishment of the association.
Vice chairman Wang Junyu and deputy secretary-general Shi Wu conferred certificates to representatives of the award-winning alumni -- Hu Hailong and Zhang Xiaosong.
Deputy secretary-general Gu Limin announced the winners of the alumni photography competition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and Zhao Guoqiang, director of the alumni office of the college, issued a certificate to Fang Qian, the representative of the winning alumni.
Deputy secretary-general Fan Xihe gave the “Report on the 2022 Work Plan of the Alumni Branch of Foreign Languages” on behalf of the branch.
Mr. Liu Shicong, the first dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, and Professor Ma Hongqi, the deputy dean, delivered speeches respectively. They wished the alumni of Foreign Languages around the world all the best in their work and life, and good health, and welcomed them to “come back home often”.
At 10:40, alumni both online and offline sang together the school song of Nankai University. The conference ended with greetings, group photos and blessings from global alumni online.
