On the afternoon of November 4th, the opening ceremony of 2021 Mudan Academy was successfully held in the 111 lecture hall of the College of Foreign Languages. Relying on the characteristics of the College of Foreign Languages, Mudan Academy has built a “Teacher-Student Development Community” that focuses on learning and teaches each other based on the concept of a three-dimensional education. In 2021, Mudan Academy will hire 14 in-school tutors, and introduce 3 off-campus social tutors in the fields of media, law, foreign trade and other fields to serve the growth and development of 155 students.
Oriented by the needs of students and combined with the characteristics of foreign language disciplines, Mudan Academy launched five series of activities, involving i-learning · wandering in the sea of languages, i-study · talking about academic methods, i-fighting · climbing to the top of foreign languages, i-enjoying · listening to the voice of the world, i-play · exploring the cultural realm. In addition, a college student management committee was established to promote students’ self-management, self-service, and self-development. Through the development of “one group with one project and one group with one characteristic”, leading groups to independently carry out intra-group and inter-group interactive communication, social practice, and entrepreneurship innovation and other activities to promote interdisciplinary and diversified integration. In terms of strengthening academic guidance, promoting teacher-student exchanges, building a platform for language and cross-cultural competence enhancement, the Academy specially launched cross-cultural communication workshops, i-Speak oral workshops and i-Write writing workshops to create new types of learning through interactive experiential salons space.
Li Chuanyong, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Nankai University, Yan Guodong, Dean of Mudan College and Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, and Xing Zhijie, a representative of the instructor of the College, revolved around the core concept of the wisdom college education model of Nankai University, the exploration and development of Mudan Academy, the introduction of the new model of teaching and learning of Mudan Academy. They also wished the students to use the platform of international communication of Mudan Academy to continuously improve their language skills and cross-cultural communication skills, in order to become the socialist builder and successor of the new era with exquisite professional knowledge, profound humanistic literacy, an international vision, and Chinese affections.
Qiu Chenxiao, an undergraduate student of the Department of English of the College of Foreign Languages, gave a speech as the student representative of the college. He told the story of himself and Mudan Academy and the original intention of the Academy Management Committee. He hoped that more people can make suggestions for the development of the Academy with passion and dreams, and stimulate greater vitality of the Academy’s self-organized operation.
After the opening ceremony, the teachers and students of Mudan Academy were in groups to meet and communicate and participated in informal youth talks, Ta speaking round tables, thematic English corners and other activities to initially experience the cultural life of the academy.
