At the same time, the service-learning English teaching team of Nankai University collected more than 500 English bilingual books through social forces, worth nearly 10,000 yuan, and donated them to the “Nankai Bookstore” of Zhuanglang No. 4 Middle School for free.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Yucai, the principal of Zhuanglang County No. 4 Middle School, reviewed Nankai University’s contribution to the fight against poverty in Zhuanglang County. More importantly, the three strategies of “material assistance”, “intellectual assistance” and “teaching assistance” carried out by Nankai University in Zhuanglang No. 4 Middle School assist the No. 4 Middle School in different dimensions to reach a new level of development.
Li Xia said that service-learning courses of Nankai University adhered to the school-running mission of “Know China, Serve China” put forward by Mr. Zhang Boling, the first president of Nankai University.
This summer camp started from the four basic sections of “Listening, Listening, Reading and Writing”, based on the effective teaching model of Nankai University (O-AMAS), and carried out project-style English learning courses for students such as “English word and association” and “English reading improvement”. The formal courses of the summer camp project and daily morning and evening reading teaching activities have accumulated more than 100 hours. At the same time, Nankai students’ learning experience sharing sessions will be held to effectively help students improve their learning abilities from a methodological level.
On the same day, all members of the team led 600 students to successfully conduct a large-scale ice-breaking activity entitled “The Island of Interest”, which kicked off the six-day English summer camp.
The establishment of this service-learning English support teaching practice base injects new vitality into the education-poor areas in Northwest China. At the same time, these practice activities will promote Nankai students to perceive the development of the motherland in-field teaching and establish the lofty ideal of “serving the motherland with youth”.
