To create a competitive atmosphere, build a strong chemical atmosphere, and promote the “Three-Integrity Education” work to take root, the College of Foreign Languages launched the first professional competition month in April. The starting point of the activity is to improve professional skills and play the role of competition education. Teachers and students of various departments actively responded, combined with professional characteristics and needs, and organized dozens of professional competitions such as English speech contests, English dubbing contests, English translation contests, Russian translation contests, German dubbing contests, Arabic reading competition, Italian essay, and defense competition, Japanese dubbing competition, Japanese translation competition, Portuguese poetry reading competition, French dictation competition, Spanish poetry reading competition, Spanish translation competition, and collaborative translation competition and so on. A total of more than 500 people participated.

To ensure the organization of professional competitions in various departments, the college has established a competition preparation team with the head of the college as the team leader and the dean or deputy dean of each department as the main body, with student department assistants to assist in the preparation of various competitions. The college also established a special “subject competition fund” to provide a financial guarantee for the launch of activities. To stimulate the enthusiasm of students to participate in the competition, the college organizes professional teachers from various departments to mobilize and guide the participating students before the competition, and develop a series of incentive mechanisms. Winning players not only receive material and spiritual rewards but can also be recommended to participate in high-level competitions of the same type at home and abroad. In addition, the results of the professional competition month will also serve as an important reference for the Hou Ying scholarship and other evaluations. With the careful planning of various departments and the active participation of students, the professional competition month activity has won unanimous praise from teachers and students.

Yang Lin, head of the Italian Department, said that she was very grateful to the college for planning such a meaningful event. The Italian Bridge Competition not only examines students’ language skills but also examines students’ logical thinking skills. In this competition, the students conducted wonderful discussions and defenses on topics such as Sino-Italian cultural exchanges and cooperation. The professional level and comprehensive ability have been greatly exercised during the preparation for the competition. Participants of the department also said that they not only improved their knowledge reserves and language skills through the competition but also saw their shortcomings and clarified the direction of future learning.

This event competition month not only focused on examining and improving students’ language skills, but also emphasized the educating role of the competition, and strengthened students’ sense of mission to tell Chinese stories in foreign languages. The English dubbing competition with the theme of “Spread the Voice of the World, Enhance the Soul of China” guided contestants to select works that demonstrate the outstanding Chinese traditional culture and national spirit for dubbing, and promoted outstanding Chinese cultural works to “go out”. The teachers and students of the Japanese Department translated and dubbed Japanese lines for the poverty alleviation drama “Mountains and Seas” to guide students to understand Chinese conditions, learn the policies of CPC, and use language expertise to spread Chinese stories and Chinese culture. Hu Yanghanfei, who won the first prize of the competition, said after the game that to deeply understand and grasp the logical mainline and character emotions of “Mountains and Seas”, the team members repeatedly studied, communicated, and experienced the original dialect, as if they were truly integrated into the Minning Village, a northwestern village that has nurtured a generation of dreams, struggles and miracles. The team has seen the infinite possibilities of dreams and infinite ways to realize value. It is well versed in learning professional knowledge, enhancing professional reserves, and serving the motherland with youthful blood.
