On May 20th, the 17th Academic Leaders Reception Day of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University and the first proposal contest of the College of Foreign Languages was held in the 204 conference room of the College of Foreign Languages. Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Hu Jun, Deputy Dean, Wang Kai, Deputy Dean, Li Dongyuan, Director of the Office of Teaching and Research, and Wang Ziyu, a 2020 undergraduate counselor attended the meeting. Representatives of students from the FAS project class of the College of Foreign Languages participated together.
Academic Leaders Reception Day focused on the “Non-universal language majors and humanities and social sciences composite international talent training program” (hereinafter referred to as the “FAS project”), and extensively listened to the opinions and suggestions of the project class students, and solved the outstanding special problems reflected by the FAS project team in a timely manner. In order to collect students’ suggestions more comprehensively and systematically, before Academic Leaders Reception Day, the Center for Rights and Interests of the Student Union of the College of Foreign Languages solicited suggestions on professional learning, curriculum arrangements, learning resources, discipline construction, etc. from all FAS project class students. At the meeting, the leaders of the college gave targeted feedback on the proposals and suggestions of the students and explained their confusion on the FAS project training plan, teaching arrangements, student activities, living facilities, and other issues. Detailed answers and eager exchanges were made to each proposal.
Yan Guodong said in his concluding speech that the college will conduct special discussions and actively solve the problems of the FAS project class, create a more real and practical sense of belonging for students, and play a role in cultivating systematic and solid foreign language knowledge, excellent cross-professional skills and excellent cross-cultural communication skills of high-quality compound international talents
It is reported that the College of Foreign Languages will adhere to the fundamental task of cultivating people, taking the needs of the students as the starting point and ending point, and practicing the practical measures of the spirit of “sticking to the original heart and assuming the mission, I do practical things for the masses”. The college should encourage young students to speak freely, understand what the students think and expect, insist on asking the students and asking the wisdom of students, and cultivate compound foreign language talents with foreign language expertise, humanistic quality, international vision, Chinese affection, and Nankai characteristics”.
