On May 28, “Miss College of Foreign Languages” and the 5th Hou Ying Scholarship Review Meeting were successfully held in the Yifu Hall of the Oriental Art Building. Shi Lijun, Human Resources Director of Tianjin New Oriental School, Zhang Changqing, General Manager and Partner of Gorton Tianjin Branch, Liu Zhikuan, General Manager of Tianjin Huayiyulian Technology Co., Ltd., Liu Xue, Deputy Director of the Office of the Development Committee of Nankai University and Deputy Secretary-General of the Foundation, Foreign Languages Yan Guodong, the dean of the college, professor of the Department of Russian, and a doctoral supervisor, Xiang Yu, deputy secretary and deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Hu Jun, deputy dean of administration of the School of Foreign Languages, and professional teachers from various departments attended the review. More than 100 students attended the review.
Through the pre-professional competition, qualification review, and Chinese and English written examinations, a total of 12 contestants stood out and entered the on-site evaluation session. The evaluation consisted of 5 links including personal statement, prepared speech in English, style display, second foreign competition, and knowledge contest. It closely focused on the foreign language talent training goal of “foreign language expertise, humanistic literacy, international vision, Chinese affection, and Nankai characteristics”. The competition passed the preliminary + final, written examination + interview, behind-the-scenes + front-stage comprehensive and multi-angle assessment methods, in-depth excavation of outstanding models, inspiring Nankai students to innovate, practice, pursue excellence and develop in an all-round way.
In the personal statement session, the contestants shared their growth and gains in academic research, social practice, subject competitions, international exchanges, etc. In the English-speaking session, the contestants launched a multi-angle interpretation around “telling the Chinese story”. In the demeanor display, the contestants used recitation, dubbing, solo, dance, video, and other methods to show their human qualities. In the second foreign language competition, the contestants used a variety of techniques to flexibly translate the hot words of current affairs. The answering section pushed the competition to a climax, showing the quick response and broad knowledge of the contestants in the fierce knowledge answering. In the end, Zhu Jingyi, Ju Hong, and Cheng Zhaojing won the first, second, and third runner-ups of “Miss College of Foreign Languages” respectively, and another 5 students won the “Most Foreign Language Expertise Award”, “Most Humanistic Quality Award” and “Most International Vision Award”, “Most Chinese Affection Award” and “Most Nankai Characteristic Award” respectively. The honorable students will also receive the “Hou Ying Scholarship of Nankai University” at the same time, rewarding 10,000 yuan per person.
It is reported that the Hou Ying Scholarship of Nankai University was jointly funded and established by alumni Mr. Zhou Haibing and Ms. Hou Ying. It aims to encourage eminent female students with overall quality, comprehensive development during the academic year and excellent achievements in a certain field or aspect so as to set up good examples of female students in the new era.
