The summary meeting of the series of activities of the “Month for Strengthening the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Foreign Languages” was held in the 111 lecture hall on the afternoon of May 20. More than 50 teachers from the college attended. Mu Xiangwang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Yan Guodong, Dean of College of Foreign Languages attended the meeting. Wang Kai, the Deputy Dean of Teaching, presided over the meeting.
First of all, Deputy Dean Wang Kai reviewed and summarized the series of activities of the “Month for Strengthening the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in the School of Foreign Languages”. The series of activities are rich in content, aiming to improve the teaching level of young teachers, improve the quality of education, and cultivate outstanding talents. The activities have achieved the expected results.
On behalf of the young teachers, Mr. Ni Yang from the Italian Department and Mr. Su Chuting from the Arabic Department successively gave speeches on the study.
Ni Yang expressed his gratitude to the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University for providing young teachers with such a valuable learning opportunity. For a newcomer who has just started for less than half a year, this activity has enabled him to learn a lot. By participating series of activities in the “Month for Strengthening the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Foreign Languages”, we not only learn about the policies of domestic colleges and universities but also have the opportunity to consult and learn from experienced teachers in terms of professional skills. Previously, “curriculum ideology” was a brand new term for me, and this activity was a very useful “literacy class” for me who had been studying abroad for a long time. Secondly, I sincerely thank Professor Liu Ying and Professor Wang Xinxin for sharing at the seminar on teacher ethics and style. They have respectively guided young teachers and provided valuable suggestions in terms of scientific research and teaching. What impressed me most was that Professor Wang Xinxin shared her own experience of teaching for nearly 30 years in a “homely” way. Since then, I have been meditating in my heart that we must work hard and strive to become a “good teacher and helpful friend” in the minds of students like her as soon as possible. Finally, I saw that my colleagues and friends around me were actively preparing and participating in the teaching competition for young teachers, and I was silently infected by their enthusiasm. I hope that in the future, I can stand on the podium of the game with courage like them.
Su Chuting said, firstly, as young teachers in the College of Foreign Languages, we should keep in mind our mission of educating people for the party and the country, and actively explore new era education and teaching methods, especially actively carrying out curriculum ideology and politics, and nourishing students’ minds constantly. We should participate in the construction of teaching materials, continuously improve the skills of teaching and educating people, and make new and greater contributions to the cultivation of socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical education, art, and labor. Secondly, as college teachers, we should love this profession, become a good teacher and a helpful friend of students, participate in students’ study and life, help students grow better, and strive to be a good teacher with ideas and beliefs, moral sentiment, solid knowledge, and a benevolent heart.
Subsequently, the awarding ceremony of the Young Teacher Teaching Competition (foreign language and literature group) of Nankai University was held ceremoniously. Secretary Mu Xiangwang and Dean Yan Guodong issued award certificates to the award-winning individuals and collectives and congratulated everyone, and said that the college will further establish an award mechanism and honor system.
Finally, Dean Yan Guodong made a concluding speech. Dean Yan fully affirmed the series of activities of “Month for Strengthening the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Foreign Languages”, and gave a detailed introduction to the delegates around the various development goals of the college’s undergraduate teaching work and the professional and discipline construction of the Fourteenth Five-Year College.
Speaking of talent training, Dean Yan encourages new teachers to observe the old teachers’ lessons more, and old teachers should teach new teachers to help young teachers integrate into the group as soon as possible, making more friends and learn more. The college will also vigorously subsidize teachers to participate in training, research, and study, and come back for reporting and exchanges. The college will also regularize the Young Teacher Skills Competition.
Dean Yan encourages everyone to take the series of activities in “Month for Strengthening the Quality of Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Foreign Languages” as an opportunity to improve their overall quality, strengthen the construction of teacher ethics and style, and develop themselves.
