Teachers of the College Won the Special Award of SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest in Tianjin Division

From June 5th to 6th, the Twelfth SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest of Tianjin Division was held in Tianjin University. Zhang Chen, a teacher of the English Department of the College of Foreign Languages in Nankai University, won the special award among the professional group of foreign languages.

The Twelfth SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest was guided by Teaching Guidance Committee of Foreign Language and Literature of the Ministry of Education, Teaching Guidance Committee of Foreign Language in universities of the Ministry of Education, and Teaching Guidance Committee of Foreign Language in vocational colleges of the Ministry of Education, sponsored by Shanghai International Studies University and undertaken by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The contest in Tianjin was guided by the Tianjin Municipal Commission of Education, hosted by the Teaching Guidance Committee of Foreign Language in Tianjin and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and undertaken by Tianjin University. It has attracted teachers from 14 universities in Tianjin to participate.

This contest consists of the semi-finals and finals. The semi-final includes a 20-minute course and overview. In the section of overview, the contestants state the overall teaching design of the teaching materials, and show the logical relationship between the teaching goal and the specific implementation in the teaching design; When giving lessons, the contestants make a presentation of a specific section of the teaching design. The final consists of lecturing and answering the questions from the judges. The contestants need to give a lesson about the given materials after 30-minute preparation, then, they will answer questions from the judges. Zhang Chen demonstrated outstanding language skills, knowledge level, language expression ability, charm and overall quality in the competition. In the simulation teaching, she used advanced teaching concepts and methods, and the significant content of the lecture was emphasized, which made it clear and easy to understand. Meanwhile, she also showed the remarkable interactive competence and organizational capability. Therefore, she successfully entered the final, and eventually won the special award and then advanced to the national contest.

It is reported that the SFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest was founded in 2010 and was the first national foreign language teaching contest held in our country. More than a thousand colleges and universities across the country has participated in the contest. For the fact that it is rigorous, innovative, fair, and authoritative, the contest has won unanimous praise from the foreign language community and the education authorities. Besides, it ranked first among the foreign language teaching competition according toAnalysis Report of the National  Teaching Competition of the university teachers (2012-2020) .
