The Research Center for Translation Studies of the College of Foreign Languages was established in May 2016, which aims to carry out scientific researches and academic exchange activities in translation studies, inherit the predecessors’ historical achievements in translation field, and promote the development of translation disciplines. Currently, there are 36 members in the research center, including teachers and post-doctoral researchers in English, Japanese, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and other languages who serve as professors, associate professors, lecturers and assistants. Professor Miao Ju acts as the director of the center, and Associate Professor Li Chunjiang serves as the secretary.
The members are committed to the construction of the theory of translation studies and the development of social practice. The research fields involve literary translation, classic translation, translation criticism, the translation of government documents, translator training, translation technology, translation policy, translation quality evaluation, language-service industry and other applied translation studies, together with multidisciplinary development of translation studies.
The members have applied for key national social science projects, translation projects of Chinese academic achievements, general projects and post-funded projects supported by the National Social Science Fund, planned projects of humanities and social science of the Ministry of Education, social sciences projects in Tianjin, the school-level projects and the horizontal scientific research projects. Furthermore, a number of papers have been published in academic journals at home and abroad; many monographs, translations and books have been issued, and all scientific research projects are completed or in the process of research.
The research center concentrates on the cutting-edge trends in the development of international translation education and scientific research, and consistently exchanges and cooperates with prestigious universities and academic institutions at home and abroad. Many international scholars have been invited to give lectures and negotiate the cooperation in running schools in our college. Besides, domestic professors have been invited to hold lectures and answer the questions. The International Doctor Forum on Translation Studies, which advocates the research themes of multilingual and cross-cultural communication in the digital age, has been successfully held; The high-end academic forum for domestic young scholars has been held to cultivate the innovative thinking and research perspectives of a new generation of scholars; The international conferences on translation studies and academic exchange activities have been co-organized by the center with Beijing Foreign Studies University and other prestigious universities. In November 2017, the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of doctoral admissions in translation of Nankai University was successfully held; In April 2019, the Eighth National Seminar on Applied Translation was held in cooperation with Translators Association of China and the Shanghai Science and Technology Translation Association. The work carried out by the Research Center for Translation Studies of the College of Foreign Languages strongly supports the advancement of scientific research and educational innovation in our college, and maintains the leading position of translation discipline of Nankai University in China and its reputation in the international translation academia.
