Recently, the “Practice of Public Interests” lecture of the College of Foreign Languages “Teach in a proper Way, Learn Effectively—The Skills and Literacy of Future Teachers” was successfully held in the hall of the seventh building. This lecture invited the deputy dean of the College of Foreign Languages in Nankai University and Associate Professor Li Xia, the chief of the effective teaching series of teaching workshops, to give a lecture. More than 200 students from all grades of the College of Foreign Languages attended the lecture.
The theme of this lecture is Effective Teaching Design and Practice Based on O-AMAS Model. Li Xia first analyzed the characteristics of post-2000s learners. She believes that participation and subjectivity are the most important characteristics. As teachers, we must pay attention to the participation and subjectivity of students and require students to truly participate in the process of knowledge creation and generation instead of just being a receiver of knowledge. Later, Li Xia specifically explained the connotation and methods of effective teaching. She pointed out that through one’s own teaching behavior, the degree to which students move towards the core goal is the only measure of effective teaching, and then combined her own examples to introduce five or six effective teaching methods such as flipped classrooms and inquiry-based learning to the students, and summarized the common characteristics of these methods. Eventually, Li Xia introduced result-oriented instructional design.
During the lecture, Li Xia frequently guided the students to discuss. Although the weather changed abruptly during the lecture, the enthusiasm of the students for discussion and interaction was not affected at all. Instead, everyone's emotions gradually reached a climax as the lecture progressed. At the end of the lecture, Li Xia sent a message to the students of the Foreign Language Institute. As a foreign language major, you must think quickly. The thoughts should not be limited to the problem itself. Instead, you should think in a larger era and social background. Therefore, solving any trivial problem cannot be separated from the background of the era. A foreign language major cannot be self-centered and should be a person with an audience in mind.
