On the evening of April 11st, The Qualification Trial in Nankai University of the 26th China Daily 21st Century Coca-Cola Cup National English Speaking Competition were successfully held in the 111 lecture hall of the School of Foreign Languages. Xiang Huiting from the College of Foreign Languages and Sun Jingfu from the College of Chemistry stood out from the ten finalists and will participate in the finals of the Tianjin Division representing Nankai University.
With the theme of Protecting the blue planet, the competition consisted of a three-minute prepared speech, a two-minute impromptu speech, and a question and answer session for the judges. Ten contestants made wonderful speeches around the theme. Ma Hongqi, Associate Dean, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor of the College of Foreign Languages, Hao Yunzhi, Dean of the English Department and Master Supervisor, Hui Chunping, Deputy Dean of the English Department and Master Supervisor, Huang Zongxian, a professional teacher of the English Department, and Stephen Procter, a foreign teacher, attended the competition and acted as judges. In the final competition, the champion, the runner-up, the third place, as well as 3 first prizes, and 4 second prizes will be selected. The champion and runner-up will represent Nankai University in the finals in Tianjin.
After the competition, Professor Ma Hongqi fully affirmed the smooth expression and clear thinking of the contestants, and inspired the contestants to further develop their ideas, and use a global vision and international mind to consider how all mankind can develop and protect the earth together.
