On the afternoon of April 11st, the Russian Department of the College of Foreign Languages held an online Experience Sharing Session of Academic and Career Planning , inviting 4 outstanding alumni from different industries and 3 senior students who are about to study in well-known universities at home and abroad to share their own experience. The session was presided over by Zhao Chunmei, deputy dean of the Russian Department, and all undergraduates majoring in Russian participated.
The participants shared their experiences on academic development, social practice, postgraduate recommendation, overseas studying, internship and employment. Zheng Ying, a 2007 alumnus who is now working at Alibaba Group, shared Nankai’s study experience and work experience after graduation, and emphasized that whether it is studying or working, we must remain curious about new things, cherish the moment and do things well so as to seize the opportunity. Zhang Yanqiu, a 2010 alumnus who works at the College of Foreign Languages and Literature of Beijing Normal University, combining her years of study experience in Russia, shared the research and learning atmosphere, interpersonal skills and entertainment when studying in Russia, and emphasized the importance of laying a good professional foundation, integrating into the local culture and maintaining close contact with the mentor. The 2012 alumni Hu Jieying shared her study experience in Nankai and the United Kingdom and her experience in administrative management work in a large group, emphasizing the need to improve oral expression skills, study English well, and accumulate internship experience related to the major.
In addition to sharing the work requirements and experiences of different jobs, Sheng Jianing, a 2015 alumnus from Beijing Normal University, Song Yujia, a 2017 undergraduate from Tsinghua University, and Lin Shuijin, a 2017 undergraduate from our college, also shared their experience and skills about the accumulation and preparation, the specific conditions and procedures of the postgraduate recommendation, the preparation of the summer camp, the precautions for the inter-professional postgraduate recommendation, etc. Gao Fei, a 2017 undergraduate, gave a detailed introduction to his experience in applying for foreign universities.
The experience shared by the invited participants has made students have a deeper understanding of learning, university selection, job hunting and other aspects, inspiring everyone’s enthusiasm for learning, and making students become clear about their direction of struggle. The students said that they have learned a lot from the experience sharing by alumni and peers, and hope our college can hold more similar activities in the future.
