At 7:00pm on February 20, 2021, the RightOempower English teaching team, consisting of the RightOempower English teaching team in Nankai University, the Cross-university and Cross-Industry RightOempower English teaching team, and WeChat Official Account Team of ‘the RightOempower English teaching team’, held the first seminar in 2021 on the “Tencent Conference” platform. 36 team members from more than 10 universities including Nankai University, Sichuan University, Ocean University of China, Tianjin Normal University, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, Qujing Normal University, Tianjin University of Technology, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Tianjin Medical University participated the meeting.
Professor Zhang Wenzhong, the leader of the RightOempower English teaching team, the director of the Foreign Language Education and Teacher Development Research Center of the College of Foreign Languages in Nankai University, the head of the WeChat public account of the “the RightOempower English Teaching Team”, and the doctoral tutor, made presentations from aspects such as “team building”, 2021 work plan and recommendations and Construction of WeChat Official Account Platform.
The RightOempower English teaching team takes gathering wisdom, sharing experience, practicing public welfare, and leading the teaching as its purpose, and hopes to form a brand of “the RightOempower” and eventually becomes a widely influential team for foreign language teaching and research, as well as foreign language teacher education and service.
The 2021 work plans and recommendations of the three research and practice teams are: The first Nankai University school-level RightOempower English teaching team focuses on applying the the RightOempower theory to carry out the RightOempower teaching and innovating cooperative teaching methods (such as online seminars and exchanges at the end of the course, etc.), writes research reports of the RightOempower teaching action, continues to hold regular teaching seminars, disseminates the teaching principles, and consolidates the foundation of personal sustainable development. The second cross-university and cross-industry RightOempower teaching team focuses on promoting the publication of the RightOempower English textbooks, actively applying for various horizontal or vertical topics, and striving for the establishment of the RightOempower English teaching alliance among the foreign language colleges where team members come from, and expands its scope to radiate foreign language teaching in primary and secondary schools. The third WeChat official account team of the RightOempower English teaching team aims to share teaching experience, contributes to foreign language teaching wisdom, and makes every effort to explore foreign language teaching coups, 5-minute games in class, news of the RightOempower English teaching team, and Golden Ideas of teaching research topics, Q&A and experience exchange, theory section, empowerment and practical experience of the RightOempower English teaching team and other distinctive public account sections.
During the seminar, the members expressed their opinions, made suggestions for team work, and solved the problems together. Professor Li Li of the College of Foreign Languages in Nankai University and Associate Professor Hao Yunzhi, Dean of the English Department, both pointed out that the teachers of the three teams need to communicate continuously, deeply comprehend the concept of the RightOempower, and cooperate in carrying out teaching reforms. Associate Professor Zuo Hongshan of Sichuan University and Associate Professor Liu Yujun of Qingdao University of Science and Technology both expressed their delight and teaching gains in participating in the team work, and reached a cooperation, jointly responsible for the upcoming Q&A and Experience Exchange section of the RightOempower English teaching team. Associate Professor Li Min of the College of Foreign Languages in Nankai University suggested that the team make benchmarking plans and actively promote the related achievements of teachers outside the team, and expected the team achievements to be driven by both theory and practice. Meanwhile, Associate Professor Zheng Jingting of Kunming University of Science and Technology and Liu Yongliang of Qujing Normal University raised doubts about how to achieve the RightOempower in knowledge-based and theoretical courses. Professor Zhang gave assignments for after-school tasks, allowing students to learn through practice, and other suggestions such as building a teaching case database among the same lesson types and different lesson types. Associate Professor Xu Chengping and Feng Ruiling of Tianjin Normal University also exchanged ideas on how to carry out teaching experiments on the RightOempower.
The first seminar of “the RightOempower Teaching Team” in 2021 lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes, and the participants had gained a lot. Looking forward to 2021, they were full of confidence and expressed that they would endeavor to carry out teaching, research and social services of the RightOempower teaching.
