On December 4th, 2020, the National German Dubbing Competition for Colleges and Universities came to an end in the School of German Language of Beijing Foreign Studies University. The team from German Department of Nankai University consisting of 6 undergraduate students from German Department in the Class of 2018, Chen Dongye, Li Yingjun, Ding Yue, Qin Yu, Cui Can and Lin Jiayun, won the National Second Prize and the Best Innovative Award under the instruction of teachers in German Department of the College of Foreign Languages in our university.
Due to the epidemic prevention and control, the preliminary and the finals of this competition were held with the online app “Jiaoliudian” as the contest platform. A total of 24 teams of German learning students, which represented their colleges or universities across the China, participated in the preliminary of the competition. German Department team of Nankai University forced its way into the finals through diligent rehearsal and joint arrangement under the instruction of teachers of German Department. In the finals, as representatives, Chen Dongye and Dingyue dealt with it calmly and cooperate tacitly and harmoniously with each other, displaying their good command of German.
Three judges from Goethe Institute mentioned that the work of German Department team of Nankai University in the preliminary, a dubbing selection from the movie Ich—Einfach unverbesserlich, remain fresh in the memory of German teachers who praised it for its vividness and amusement. Team members said that without the joint effort from all team members and instructions and encouragement from all the teachers of German Department in Nankai University, they could not make such an achievement and thanked for the help of a foreign teacher, Holger in correcting their pronunciation and his valuable modification suggestions.
This competition not only displayed the talent of students from German Department in Nankai University but also promoted the construction of study atmosphere of German Department, further provoking the interest the whole department in language learning and professional competitions.
It is reported that the College of Foreign Languages has always attached great importance to quality-oriented education and promoted establishment of professional competition platforms. The college issues Implementation Measures of Pre-competition Cultivation and Instructions of Students in the College of Foreign Languages, establishes instruction team at the college level, provides necessary support of funds, policy and external resource; organizes professional teachers team which is divided according to language type and constructs an integrated competition instruction system of teaching, learning, practicing and participating the contest; establishes professional competition database and expands excellent professional competition platform, etc. Furthermore, students are hoped to increase their learning confidence and sense of personal honor through making an achievement in each competition, which presents a good situation of students participating in competitions on their own initiative.
