Recently, the open discussion for teachers and students in Mudan Academy has been held. Xing Zhijie, the first Secretary of the CPC Committee of the directly affiliated unit, Jiang Yawen, Director of Cultivation Office and Degree Management Office of Research Institute in Nankai University and Associate Professor in School of Economics, Hao Yunzhi, Director of English Department in College of Foreign Languages, Vice Director of the Center of International and Regional Studies in Nankai University and Associate Professor in College of Foreign Languages, had an in-depth interaction and communication with members in Mudan Academy with two main themes: “career planning” and “breaking the barrier of the discipline and blending humanities thinking with sciences thinking” based on the present situation of students’ development and teachers’ own research fields.
On November 12th, Jiang Yawen organized a “Career Planning” symposium for students where she invited Han Shaoping, a senior human resources management expert to give a lecture. Starting from phenomena in life, Han Shaoping analyzed the common social behaviors of current young people step by step and introduced psychological concepts in order to help attendees better understand their psychological state and surroundings and promote them to scientifically and reasonably plan their careers. After the lecture, students further communicated with the two teachers on problems of their career planning based on one-to-one guidance.
On November 14th, Xing Zhijie and Hao Yunzhi jointly held a symposium with the theme of “Breaking the Barrier of the Discipline and Blending Humanities Thinking with Sciences Thinking”, communicating with students from two aspects of teaching and research. Two teachers pointed out that the emotional thinking of humanities and the rational thinking of sciences complement one another. And they encouraged students to cultivate their enquiry mind and specialize in one certain field with the inclusiveness of Chinese culture as the point of penetration. “The integration and complement of humanities thinking and sciences thinking, an encounter between rational thinking and emotional thinking” and “International and regional studies should be guided by culture and it is supposed to be expanded from macroscopic view to the microscopic view rather than be limited to a single scope”, the words of two mentors brought students many inspirations. Students in different disciplines such as students from College of Foreign Languages, College of Chemistry and School of Statistics and Data Science, were eager to take a floor, which vividly embodied the idea of “discipline integration and development.”
It is reported that taking the guidance of mentors as the breakthrough point, Mudan Academy would give full paly to professional advantages of mentors in their own field through the form of “i lecture”, “i research”, “i sharing” and “i exploration” in order to present classical topics for discussion and newly emerging central issues from different fields of study, disciplines and majors, expand students’ understanding and command of different professional knowledge, form an interdisciplinary view, foster discipline integration and promote the cultivation of compound talents. Besides, Mudan Academy would hold the online and offline talkfests and symposiums to discuss and communicate about ideal and belief, life planning and confusion, academic counseling and employment advice, etc, build up the teacher-student development community and cultivate students’ sound personalities.
