The College of Foreign Languages, Tianjin No.42 Senior High School and Tianjin Primary School Co-established the Research and Practice Platform of the Integration of Foreign Language Curriculum and Ideological and Political Education

In order to fully grasp and put into practice General Secretary Xi Jinping’s major expositions on education work, adhere to the spirit of the national education conference and A Guideline on Strengthening Reform and Innovation of Ideological and Political Theory Courses, promote the construction of three-all-round education system and further reform the ideological and political education in curriculum, on November 19th, the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, Tianjin No.42 Senior High School and Tianjin Primary School held an opening ceremony for the research and practice platform of the integration of foreign language curriculum and ideological and political education for primary, secondary and tertiary schools at Tianjin No.42 Senior High School.

Mu Xiangwang, Secretary of CPC Committee of the College of Foreign Languages, Wang Kai, Vice Dean of the college, Zhou Shen, Vice Director of Academic Affairs Office in Nankai University, Zhang Jie, Secretary of CPC Committee of Tianjin No.42 Senior High School, Shi Yongmei, Headmaster of Tianjin No.42 Senior High School, Zhang Hongkui, Headmaster of Tianjin Primary School, some cadres and student representatives from three schools participated in this activity.

In the activity, representatives from these three parties held the opening ceremony and respectively gave a speech.

Mu Xiangwang, Secretary of CPC Committee of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University pointed out that in the process of the co-establishment of cooperation community, the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University would give full play to the academic advantages, encouraged professors and doctoral supervisors to step out from professional classes to the community to instruct students in different stages to realize their values of life. Professors’ integration of ideological and political education into the foreign language teaching and learning would make the ideological and political education and foreign language teaching more profound. At the same time, the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University encouraged students majoring in foreign languages at different educational levels to leave the ivory tower and step into primary and secondary schools, set an example as peers, mutually educate, bring the ideological and political elements to these younger students and make foreign language brighter with the help of ideological and political knowledge. We would realize what General Secretary Xi Jinping had mentioned, “the full potential for development of gradually open and upgrade ideological and political theory courses in primary, secondary and tertiary schools.” And this reproducible and propagable mode would be our response to the development demand of education cause in China.

Zhang Jie, Secretary of CPC Committee of Tianjin No.42 Senior High School, highly affirmed this platform and hoped that this platform would enable students from primary, secondary and tertiary schools to grow and become a new generation with patriotism, social responsibility, innovative spirit and practical ability, shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation, display Chinese people’s bearings and qualities in order to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.

Zhang Hongkui, Headmaster of Tianjin Primary School, hoped this project could make students in Tianjin Primary School acquire English in various English learning activities, express their patriotism in the language application process and expand the learning area. The school should construct the team of morality and law course in a down-to-earth manner, advance the ideological and political education in English learning, implant love for the family and the nation in students. Elementary school students were also supposed to have noble souls and lofty aspirations, and observe the proprieties. Every student should love their country, hometown and friends and become upbeat youth who understand how to love others and themselves.

Zhou Shen, Vice Director of Academic Affairs Office in Nankai University said that the most intrinsic content of ideological and political education is talent cultivation and fostering virtue through education. Although the age groups of students cultivated by primary, secondary and tertiary schools were different, our aims were the same, that is to take good care of them, flowers of the country, and nurture them well-prepared to join the socialist cause. This required us to make students improve their comprehensive qualities while they were acquiring knowledge by ideological and political education in curriculum. Through cooperation and the platform construction, teachers guided by ideological and political education in curriculum would reach the national first-class standards in curriculum construction, major construction, textbook compilation and other aspects.

After the opening ceremony, post-graduate and doctoral student representatives from Nankai University delivered the first lecture of the Foreign Language and Ideological and Political course named “Glistening Foreign Language and Ideological and Political Course” to students from Tianjin No.42 Senior High School and Tianjin Primary School. Students explored the integration of ideological and political elements into foreign language courses and put it into practice through the translation and explanation of the long-range objectives through the year 2035 and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s major sayings. Students from the primary and secondary schools actively participated in this lecture and expressed that they learned a lot from it.

It is reported that the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University, Tianjin No.42 Senior High School and Tianjin Primary School will interact, exchange, discuss and further cooperate in development of ideological and political projects in brand courses, construction of outstanding interdisciplinary teaching and research team and establishment of learning assistance system with foreign language characteristic. And They will also develop an integrated system of gradually open and upgrade ideological and political education in curriculum in primary, secondary and tertiary schools through the interaction between the first classroom and the second classroom.
