The specialized classes of the College of Foreign Languages welcome new students. Recently, the College of Foreign Languages opened all professional foreign language courses to 149 students from Mudan Academy in 16 departments of the university. Students can take one or two language and culture courses based on their own interest and needs. After the examination, they will obtain the Honor Credits certification from the College of Foreign Languages. At present, nearly 50 students have begun to study for honor credits. Furthermore, the students, together with 16 tutors with profound academic knowledge and rich life experience, will participate in a series of lectures, exchanges and special activities, which aims to create a teacher-student development community with interdisciplinarity, diversified integration, and complementary teaching.
The honor credits system is specially designed for students of Mudan Academy, aiming to utilize the curriculum resources of the college to enhance their language expression ability and cross-cultural communication skills, as well as broaden their international horizons. Among all the courses, oral English and English writing have become the most popular courses among the students. Literary and cultural courses such as The Appreciation of British and American Literature, Introduction to Chinese and Foreign Cultural Exchanges, and Cross-cultural Communication are also highly popular among students. Besides, many students choose to study Japanese, French, German, Arabic and other second foreign languages. Except for professional courses, students can also voluntarily participate in the teaching program of non-English languages on weekends initiated by the students of the College to learn foreign languages and cultures.
The implementation of honor credits marks the launching of the Mudan Academy of Nankai University. It is claimed that the College of Foreign Languages has recently officially released the activity plan of Mudan Academy in autumn semester. The four theme activities, including i learn | talking about academic studies, i play | exploring cultural realm, i fight | climbing to the top of foreign language-learning, i enjoy | listening to the thoughts and advice of peers, are fantastic and distinctive. Among them, there are activities such as a series of lectures on regional country studies that highlight the characteristics and advantages of the discipline, training camps for talents of international organizations, as well as afternoon tea with tutors, China-overseas exchange meetings, and sodalities that condense the emotion and wisdom of teachers and students. There are also speech contest, dubbing contest, poetry writing contest, diplomat talent contest and other competitions, as well as garden party, drama festival, poetry recitation competition and other immersive cultural experiences, aiming to train students into socialist builders and successors with exquisite professional knowledge, profound humanistic quality, international vision, Chinese feelings and Nankai character.
