The 4th Russian Theatre Festival of Nankai University is a Success

On the evening, November 29th, the 4th Russian Theatre Festival of Nankai University was held in the College of Foreign Languages. The whole faculty and all students of the Department of Russian attended the festival.

The festival began at 18:30. The first act was The Politics Kills No One adopted from Catherinethe Great, a TV drama popular with the Russians, performed by the graduates of 2019. They gave a lively description of the main tops contained in the drama with audacious and superb performance. The second act was Cinderella, a pantomime performed by the undergraduates of Average Class 2018. The acting was combined with the narrator, making the audience reviewing the happy memory of the fairy tales. The third act is Anna Karenina, adopted from the novel of Leo Tolstoy and performed by the undergraduates of Program Class 2019. They gave a depiction of the female protagonist’s inter conflict for being detached from the reality. The fourth act was Imperial Commissioner, adopted from Nikolay Gogol’s work and performed by the undergraduates of Program Class 2019. Their wonderful performance was of practical meaning. Next act was Irony of Fate, a Christmas Eve’s drama, performed by the undergraduates of Program Class 2018. With standard Russian, they restore the original scene. At last, to everyone’s surprise, the festival ended with 2019 graduate Zhang Yunmeng’s performance of Vladimir Mayakovsky’s poem Clouds in Pants in monologue. Her performance was appealing, highly stratified and full of tension.

The repertoire was the integration of classics and innovativeness, solemnity and loveliness. Imperial Commissioner won the first place, Irony of Fate the second, and The Politics Kills No One, Cinderella, Anna Karenina the third. 2019 graduate Zhang Yunmeng won the first prize fror actors, 2019 undergraduate Xie Yuyang the second, 2018 Program Class undergraduate and 2019 Program Class undergraduates Zhao Ziguang and Liu Ruijia the third.

Till now, the four-year-old “Russian Theatre Festival” has become a full-fledged platform, in which students of all grades actively engaged to experience the glamour of Russian literature and culture. All these activities are contributed to improve their proficiency in languages and literature attainments in the interaction between the main course and curriculum activities.
