December 25th, 2019, expert appraisal meeting for master program inside the second level discipline “country and region studies” independently set was held at the Liangzheng Hall in the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University. The participants were Pro. Ning Qi, President of the College of Foreign Languages and Executive Vice President of the Institution of Country and Region Studies, Peking University and member of the Steering Committee for the Foreign Languages Teaching, Steering Committee for the Teaching of Colleges and Universities under the Ministry of Education (MOE), Vice Director of Russian Commission and Chairman of Russian Education Association of China, Pro. Zhong Zhixiang, Director of Country and Region Studies , Information Engineering University, member of Foreign Language Subjects Review Group, Academic Degree Commission of the State Council，Deputy director of Non-Universal Language Commission, Steering Committee of Teaching for Foreign Language and Literature in Colleges and University under the MOE, Chairman of Non-Universal Language Teaching and Research Association of China, Pro. Luo Lin, Deputy Director of Academic Committee, Being Language and Culture University, President of Country and Region Studies, Deputy Director of Foreign Language Division, President of Middle East College, Director of Secretariat of Country and Region Studies under the MOE, Director of Arabic Studies Center, BLLU, Country and Region Studies Base, under the MOE, academic leader of Beijing Advanced Discipline Country and Region Studies, Pro. Zhou Yifu, President of the College of Foreign Languages, Jilin University, Chairman of Japanese Research Association of China, member of Steering Committee of Japanese Teaching, Steering Committee of Teaching for Foreign Language and Literature in Colleges and University under the MOE, Pro. Gu Jun, Vice President of International Institution of Chinese Culture, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), Pro, Tan Yuan, a professor of the Department of France, BFSU, Pro. Che Lin, Vice Chairman of the National Society of French Teaching in Colleges and Universities, Secretary of Germany Center, Hongzhong University of Science of Technology, Vice President of the College Foreign Languages, the Steering Committee of College Foreign Language Teaching under the MOE.
The meeting is hosted by Pro. Ning Qi. President ofMaster Program inside the Second Level Discipline “Country and Region Studies” the College of Foreign Languages, Nankai University, Director of Country and Region Studies Center Yan Guodong reported on the necessity and feasibility of establishing Master Program inside the Second Level Discipline “Country and Region Studies” in the CFL of the NKU. The experts gave a careful review of the proposal and some useful suggestions. They believed that since the State Council had put the second level discipline of Foreign Literature, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in Foreign Languages, Comparative Literature and Cross-cultural Studies, Translation Studies and Region Studies under the first level discipline Foreign Languages and Cultures and advocated that the foreign disciplines should be engages in the interdisciplinary studies and talents in this field be cultivated, this proposal would better serve the needs of “the Belt and Road” initiative and the socio-economic development of Tianjin and the reform and opening-up. Besides, they were convinced that with the long history of discipline development and a variety of majors (English, Russian, Japanese, French, Germany, Translation, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic), it is certain that the discipline” Country and Region Studies” should be established in the CFL of the NKU owing to a wonderful variety of languages, an early starter in this field and the a reasonable outline for development programs.
