On the afternoon, December 20th, sponsored by Graduate Affairs Office of Party Committee and organized by the Department of English, “Exploring the China’s Famous Journals” lecture was held in the lecture hall 111 of the College of Foreign Languages. Pro. Jin Li from Beijing Foreign Studies University delivered a speech “Development History of American Women Literature based on Race and Gender”. Hosted by President of the CFL Yan Guodong, the lecture brought more than 50 participants including President of the College of Chinese Language and Culture Wang Lixin, pro. Liu Ying from the College of Foreign Languages, vice-professor Wang Xufeng from the School of Literature, graduates and postgraduates.
Pro. Jin expounded that alongside with the American national literature, American women literature emerged and witnessed 300 years of history; that it experienced two climaxes, in mid-19 century and after the 1970s, when its development, noteworthily, was influenced by gender and race, showing that political movement played an important role in shaping literature and conversely its unique value and aesthetic view reflected the then social and cultural development.
Pro. Wang Lixin gave a review to her speech and encouraged the young people to make studies in a down-to-earth manner based on the panorama of American women literature, high proficiency in history and culture, and sophisticated academic thoughts.
In the question-and-answer part, pro. Jin gave answers to some relevant questions posed by the students. The lecture ended with a round of applause.
