Cao Ximing from the Department of Italian of the College of Foreign Languages, Nankai University Wins the Third Prize of the 6th “Italian Bridge” Contest

November 27th, 2019, Cao Ximing, a 2017 undergraduate from the Department of Italian of the College of Foreign Languages, Nankai University attended the 6th “Italian Bridge—Italian Address and Defense Contest” held in Italian Embassy Cultural Center in Beijing and won the third prize of in undergraduate group.

The contest was divided into two groups: undergraduate group and graduate group. For undergraduates, a 5-minute self-representation and a 5-minute question-and-answer part were involved. In the essay-question part, Cao Ximing chose to explain the famous line “Learning without thought is useless, thinking without learning is perilous” in the Analects of Confucius. In the first part, she performed very well with fluent Italian. In the second part, she cited some exciting examples, leaving a deep impression to the judges.

Under the guidance of the foreign teacher Letizia Vallini, pro. Shidou, foreign students from the College of Chinese Language and Literature and the graduate of Istituto Universitario Orientale di Napoli, Cao Ximing won the third prize with great efforts. The result was the best gift for their joint efforts. Meanwhile, Cao Ximing experienced the communication of different cultures and witnessed the brilliant representation given by the students from other universities.

Sponsored by the Italian Embassy Cultural Center, the 6-year-old contest is held annually targeting at all students majoring in Italian in Chinese colleges and universities. The 6th contest reaches an all-time high in number. Altogether there are 31 contestants from 22 university across China, including 22 in undergraduate group and 9 in graduate group.
