On November 21, 2019, the 13th and 14th Nankai University Liang Yu Translation Scholarship awarding ceremony was held in Room 110, CFL. Wang Kai, the deputy dean of CFL, Xiang Yu, the deputy secretary of Chinese Communist Party Committee and deputy dean of CFL, and Zhou Wenyu, postgraduate instructor presented the ceremony, with Wang Ai, undergraduate instructor, as the host and the awardees attending.
During the ceremony, Xiang Yu gave an introduction on the foundation and censorship of Liang Yu Translation Scholarship, announcing the names of 13th and 14th awardees. Xiang stated that as an outstanding alumnus of CFL, Mr. Zhao Xingmin, by setting Liang Yu Translation Scholarship, intended to encourage the excellent students studying translation to deepen their research and practice in translation so as to serve China and the world better via translation.
The awardees addressed their awarding speech respectively. The 13th Scholarship winner, Gong Yuqing, 2017 undergraduate from English Department expressed that the foreign language learners more and more long for going out to bring Chinese culture to every corner of the world under the circumstance of globalization. The 14th Scholarship winner, Cheng Hang, 2018 postgraduate majoring in English Language and Literature, denoted that Mr. Zhao set an good example for all of us whose achievements and love to NKU could be perceived by everyone. We would adhere to his hope and expectation, make constant progresses in translation and deliver the stories of NKU and China perfectly in the new ere as a language learner in NKU.
Wang Kai gave a summary at last, expressing his respect and appreciation to Mr. Zhao and giving his congratulation to all the prizewinners. He said that CFL has been working hard to improve the undergraduate education quality, enlarge the teaching collaboration with international universities and cultivation a piles of brilliant talents who do well in exchange through language so as to make more contributions to the further reform and opening-up and better performance in international stage of China. He hoped that the awardees could cherish such an honor and become a contributor who knows China and serves China, and who knows the world and serves the human community of a shared future.
It is known that Nankai University Liang Yu Translation Scholarship was founded by Zhao Xingmin, alumnus in English Department enrolled in 1980, aiming at awarding those excellent students who major in English and Translation in CFL of NKU. Each year, 4 undergraduate and 1 postgraduate will be awarded, with 1400 RMB for each person. 71 students have received the prizes since it founded in 2007.
