Hosted by CFL, Overseas Talents Forum Was Successfully held in Egypt, Italy and Portugal

From November 2 to 11, 2019, Professor Yan Guodong, dean of the CFL of NKU, led a delegation to visit Egypt, Italy, and Portugal. He presided the Overseas Talents Forum of CFL of NKU and discussed the international exchange with the University of Alexandria, the University of Louis, the University of Palermo, the University of New Lisbon and the University of Lisbon, aiming at further enhancing the international exchange level of CFL.

Professor Yan Guodong presided over the Overseas Talents Forum of Egypt at Alexandria University, the forum of Italy in Italy, the forum of Portugal in the University of New Lisbon in Portugal. Mr. Yan gave a comprehensive introduction to the development, status quo and development goals of CFL of NKU at the lecture. He pointed out that the college adheres to the concept of talent cultivation of “Foreign Language Specialty, Cultivation of Humanity, Vision of Internationality, Tie to China, and Nankai Characteristics” and the objective of talent cultivation of “Training more staffs involved in foreign affairs, researchers of international issues, practitioners of civilizational exchange and providers of language services for the country”. CFL of NKU has an enabling environment for talents and supportive policies for young teachers, embracing overseas outstanding young doctors to join Nankai University. The three overseas forums had a strong response, with Chinese and foreign doctors enthusiastically attending and active self-recommendations. The delegation of CFL conducted a one-on-one dialogue and inspection with the graduating doctoral students while making a presentation. Mr. Zhou Gaoyu, the First Secretary of the Education Division of the Cultural Department of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Portuguese Republic, visited the forum held in the University of New Lisbon, expressing his support for Nankai University to host the Overseas Talents Forum.

The delegation visited the University of Alexandria, and met with its president, Essam Alkordy, the vice president of undergraduate teaching, Hesham Gaber, the vice president of postgraduate teaching, Alaa Ramadan, and the dean of the liberal arts college, Ghada Mousa. They made a deep negotiation on the exchange of teachers and students and academic cooperation between the two universities and the establishment of the Arab Joint Research Center. President Essam Alkordy of Alexandria University warmly welcomed the delegation from Nankai University and stated that Nankai University is a well-known university in China with a long history. He appointed a person to be responsible for the draft of the framework agreement with NKU and looked forward to visiting Nankai in December and signing the agreement, to push the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two universities to a new level together.

The delegation visited the University of Luis, Italy, and met with the vice president Raffaele Marchetti and the relevant principals. The two sides expressed their hope to strengthen cooperation in the areas of mutual teacher visits, summer camps, and “3 + 1 + 1” joint training program for undergraduates and masters. They planned to further discuss measures during Raffaele Marchetti’s recent visit to NKU.

The delegation visited the University of Palermo, Italy, met with the principal of the university, Fabrizio Micari, the vice president Fabio Mazzola, and the vice president of teaching, Laura Auteri, and signed an inter-college cooperation agreement with Francesca Piazza, the dean of the School of Humanities. Representatives from the University of Palermo expressed their willingness to send a linguistic team that can teach in English to CFL to carry out teaching and cooperation, facilitating the development of linguistics discipline in CFL with its edge on linguistics.

Professor Yan Guodong and his followers visited the University of New Lisbon, Portugal and talked with Francisco Caramelo, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Luis Oliveira Martin, deputy director in charge of international exchange affairs. The two parties decided to enhance the collaboration in teacher dispatch, student exchange, and “3+1+1” joint training programs for undergraduates and masters with the inter-college academic exchange agreements signed as soon as possible. The delegation also visited the NKers in Portuguese majors who are studying in the school currently.

Professor Yan Guodong and his followers visited the University of Lisbon, Portugal, initiating talks with Luis Ferreira, the vice president of the school. Yan pointed out that cooperation with the University of Lisbon is our long-term desire, and hoped to strengthen exchanges and establish a comprehensive and extensive cooperative relationship during the process of building the first-class Portuguese major in China.

This visit has achieved fruitful results in expanding the overseas influence of CFL of NKU, attracting talented people to join, and strengthening cooperation and exchanges with well-known universities in relevant countries, achieving the goal of hosting an overseas talent forum.
