In order to further implement the “Urgent Notice on Carrying out Special Investigation and Rectification of hidden Hazards” and “Notice on Further Strengthening the Investigation and Rectification of Hidden Hazards in Campus in Winter” purposed by the school, CFL, together with the Security Office have further clarified the responsibility of fire safety management, improved fire safety management system, and strengthened fire safety filing management since the “Fire Safety Month”.
On November 21, Security Office held a series of fire safety activities of publicity and exercise in CFL. Wang Zhizhong, deputy officer of Security Office, Zou Yujie, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee of CFL, deputy dean Jiao Yanting and Ma Hongqi, representatives of young teachers, foreign teacher, administrators of CFL and Public English Teaching department, students representatives of undergraduates, postgraduates and doctor, and property management staff participated in the activities, totaling over 50 people.
Before the fire safety publicity and exercise began, Jiao Yanting conveyed the work requirements for the investigation and rectification of hidden dangers in winter by the school, and asked teachers and students to pay more attention to fire prevention, participate in fire protection, and raise awareness of precautions.
Wang Daichao, teacher from the Fire Protection Department of Security Office explained in detail from the aspects of fire hazards, statutory duties of fire safety management, work content of fire safety management, knowledge of fire prevention and firefighting, common fire protection facilities, fire disposal, and escape.
Teachers and students experienced the use of fire self-rescue respirators, fire blankets, and various fire extinguishers.
Yang Lin, the head of the Italian major in CFL, said that participating in the fire safety activities can bring us a lot of fire prevention knowledge and tips. Teachers and students have improved the capability of disaster prevention and the awareness of fire protection through the actual operation of fire facilities.
Professor Murad Abbas, Nankai University Outstanding Professor, director of Arab language department and the Ph.D. supervisor of Alexandria University, Egypt and the member of the Supreme Academic Committee of Egypt, Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan, said that he felt very honored to participate in this activity and deeply appreciated that Nankai University has attached great importance to campus safety except for student’s education. The popularization of firefighting knowledge is not only the cultivation of knowledge and morality, but also a lifelong measure to benefit teachers and students.
Chen Fan, 2018 undergraduate student from Japanese FAS program class, indicated: “Fire safety always matters.”. Chen said she enriched her understanding of the use of fire extinguishers and related fire precautions by experiencing the exercise of fire safety in person. There are many issues concerning fire safety in the dormitory that need attention. For example, we should pull out all electrical devices when leaving the dormitory. And we cannot use the overpowered electrical appliances in dormitory. Winter is coming, we need to pay more attention to fire safety. This exercise is very close to our lives, which is also for the sake of each teacher and student. With fire extinguished, our hearts are warmed.
